LS4278 makes the same beep with a valid code vs an invalid code

My scanner makes the same beep with a valid barcode vs an invalid barcode. I know at the grocery store there scanners make a different beep if the wrong barcode is scanned. We are not a grocery store but would like that feature is there a fix for that?

This needs some clarification, what do you mean by "invalid?" If the scanner beeps then the bar code is good and the scanner decoded it.

Contact the Symbol Help-desk at 1-800-653-5350. What you are asking is not possible with the LS4278. What you are probably hearing at the grocery store is the cash register software generating an error beep. The LS4278 is really just a simple scanner( eben though it is cordless) but it has no memory, and therefore cannot be loaded with a database for error correction. That is being generated by the software at the store, not thye scanner itself. For clarification, uyou can call me at the office:

My canner ls4278 is making a sound and turnin red when i scan

It could be the scanner is not paired to the cradle. The scanner will be once for the barcode and then four times for the communication error. Make sure the cradle has power; it will pull power from a USB port. Scan the pairing barcode on top of the cradle. The scanner will give a high low high low beep and then shortly after give a short low short high beep indicating the radios have paired. If the scanner still beeps four times after doing this, the host type may not be set. If connecting USB scan HID Keyboard from the LS4278 Product Reference Guide.

Why does my LS 4278 scanner beep when cradled?

It sounds like the power is dropping along the 15 foot length of the cable. You could try connecting a power supply to the cradle and should not hear those beeps any more. The part number of the power supply is PWRS-14000-253R. All of this assumes you are using the STB4278 or CR0078-SC cradle to connect. If you have a CR0078-P cradle it needs a different power supply.

I have a new LS4278. I need to congigure it to read fedex barcode

All you have to do is create a rule to transmit only the 12 digits you want.
You can create a rule with the Programming manual or the 123scan software.
Both of these are available online at support.symbol.com. Here is a short cut:

LS4278 scanner can't read digits

Hi, try scanning French Windows barcode from the USB section of the LS4278 Product Reference Guide. The barcode is on Adobe page 147 of 414. You may also have to scan the Enable Keypad Emulation barcode from Adobe page 150 of 414, but I would do this only after testing with the French Windows setting first. I suggest saving a copy of the document before printing the barcodes just to make it easier to print. Hopefully this will resolve the issue.

How can you use a symbol model ls4278 with a usb converter for the ps/2 plug?

The scanner will probably give you error beeps because you are not using a PS/2 keyboard. All you should have to do is scan the IBM AT Notebook barcode from the LS4278 Product Reference Guide. The link below will take you to the manual and the barcode is on Adobe page 104 of 418. I would suggest saving a copy then printing just the page you need.

If the scanner does not start working immediately you should reboot your computer.

Hi, I would be happy to assist you in resetting your LS4278, but it would be helpful to know how you are connected. The Set Defaults barcode will reset all of the scanner settings, but it will also cause you to lose the "pair" (communications) between the scanner and cradle. If you try scanning a barcode at this point you will receive a single beep followed by four error beeps. This just means the scanner is not talking to the cradle. Scan the barcode on top of the cradle. The scanner should give a high low high low series of beeps followed by a short low short high. The short low short high indicates the scanner is talking to the cradle again and you are ready to scan.

If you are connected through the USB port and scan a barcode and get one beep, but do not see data on your host try unplugging the black power supply cable from the cradle. Try scanning your barcode again and it should show up on the host.
