default must be no password , here are the steps to reset the printer
NVRAM reset for the HP LaserJet 400 colorMFP M475dn (Confirmed functional) 1: Print configuration page before beginning reset
2: Disconnect all cables except for power
3: While printer is in ready state, note the position of "Ready" message on the screen (Probably bottom right)
4: Power off the printer via power button
5: Touch the location on the screen where "Ready" message appeared.
6: while touching the screen, power on the printer. Continue to hold the screen.
7: When "Memory Limit Reached" message appears, release the screen.
8: Printer will reboot, clean and calibrate
9: Return cables to their appropriate ports
10: Print configuration page to confirm settings are cleared. Restore settings desired manually.

Depends on if you want color or black and white, how many pages you are going to print. If you want color, look at one of the HP X series inkjet units, cost per page way lower than laser. If you are looking only black and white, small office I would buy an HP M425.

Not sure if you just want to print a configuration or if you have an error code. To print a configuration page

1. Scroll to and touch the Administration button.

Touch the Print button to print the report, or touch the View button to view the report on the screen. The report consists of several pages.

Configuration page
The Configuration page lists the current settings and properties of the printer. You can print a
Configuration page from the printer or HP Toolbox. To print the Configuration page from the printer,
complete the following steps.
1 Press the (LEFT ARROW) or the (RIGHT ARROW) buttons to select the Reports menu.
2 Press the button (SELECT).
3 Press the (LEFT ARROW) or the (RIGHT ARROW) buttons to select Config report.
4 Press the button (SELECT) to print the Configuration page.

Yellow print OK?
No? try print with another yellow toner cartridge (Q6002A).

The two most typical causes for this type of behaviour are:

1. wrong print driver being used. Ensure that you are either using the proper HP print driver for the 4600 or the HP Universal Print driver.

2. Bad communication cable, loose connectors or dirty connectors.

Try printing the configuration page from the control panel. If that prints ok then it is more likely the two above causes. If the configuration page prints wrong then you probalby have a formatter issue or memory issue.

To print the configuration page, press the down arrow until it reads information, press the check mark, then use the down arrow until configuration page shows then press the check mark again.
