Sounds like it might be a codec that is not included in the OS or the applications you have tried. Can you try VLC player? It's one of the most versatile media players around and plays almost everything that I've come across.
Without the full error code, I have to assume this error ends with "You may need to install a Directshow decoder for this audio format." Look on this page in the left upper corner, you will see : Moviecodec Forums/Downloads , when you put the cursor on this, another choise can be maken, then choose below in that choise : Audio Codecs, when this has been opened you have to take the first of the row ( AC3 Codec ( tag 2000/8192 Clic on this one, save it to a place ( new folder )in your "received files " and then open it( double clic ) Put it in your " program files " following the instructions. When this is done, your movie will have sound. It works with my movie
The Apple-supplied version of Quicktime lacks certain proprietary codecs that belong to other companies. VLC contains these via some licensing arrangement that is not clear to me. You can augment the installed codecs by installing a free package called Perian. Once you have done so, the audio to the files you have already downloaded will probably begin playing just fine.
Try a web search on your error messages - you will be able to fix a lot of things just by doing that. You can get this video codec at http://www.free-codecs.com/download/GPL_MPEG-1_2_DirectShow_Decoder_Filter.htm . It doesn't hurt anything to install all of the common video codecs. Most of them can read each other.
You need to install AC3 codec. You can google for it but I personally like the set of codecs from here: http://www.codecguide.com/download_kl.htm It has everything you would ever need to play audio/video files. You can download the basic package or if you need additional tools, read the description of the rest.
