Those values can only be changed after printing the alignment page either via the computer or by the keypad on the machine. On the machine they are set with the up/down arrows, but only after printing the alignment page.

Power is on to my Canon Pixma MP780, but no display

I got such problem on my MP 780 (grayed boxes on bottom LCD line, no function). It turned out to be missing 1.5V for CPU core. On revese (solder) side of mainboard i found point described as "1.5V". I've powered this from external supply (took about 2 amperes) for few seconds and MP is alive again (without external supply).

Most probably is PURGE UNIT not functioning well. If print out still acceptable then just ignore the ink stain.

Won't print black ink text; looks like faint watermark print; ran all maintenance check several times (nozzle checks, etc)

Remove the black cartridge and soak it with an alcohol free window cleaner soaked paper towel let it sit on the towel for a good thirty minutes then wipe clean and put back in printer run nozzle check if necessary.
