SOURCE: thread on bottom, bobbin thread loose

Sounds as though you've misthreaded the upper tension. The best way to verify this would be to thread your machine, lower the presser foot on to the material. Now try pulling the thread through the needle. (Assuming your upper tension dial is set to a number greater than one). You should feel resistance. Should you not feel resistance, rethread your upper tension.

SOURCE: Top thread is loose

Your needle thread tension is too tight or the bobbin tension is too loose. If it is the latter try turning the bobbin case tension adjusting screw clockwise abot a full revolution.
If that does not work there is more than likely a bit of lint behind the tension spring, so carefully remove it and clean it out.

SOURCE: Singer 301a...sews on top of fabric

This is a tension adjustment problem. It's good to use two different colors of thread, like you did. From your description, the top thread (needle thread) tension needs to be tighter. As you tighten the tension of the top thread, you'll see that the top thread pulls the bobbin thread up into the fabric so it's no longer laying loose on the bottom of the fabric.

You'll need to have the pressure foot down when you tighten the tension. Tighten it a little, sew a practice seam, check to see what the stitch looks like. Tighten it a little more, sew, check, etc etc--until both top and bottom look the same--you shouldn't see much (if any) of the bobbin thread color on top of the fabric or the top thread color on the underside.

Let me know how this works for you, ok?

SOURCE: Singer Futura II - Model 920

This happens when we forget to have the presser foot raised when threading.

What looks like the fault of the bobbin is actually the top thread not forming a tight stitch with the bobbin thread.

When the machine is threaded with the foot down, the tension control is closed and the thread cannot enter the control as it should. When you begin to sew, the tension control cannot do it's job.

If the machine is already threaded, lift the presser foot and pull about 10" of thread from the needle, or re-thread the machine with the presser foot up.

I have a 2250 singer tradition. it sews fine then its like the upper thread guide gets caught and it jams the machine

That is so very frustrating isn't it. Well, there are a few things to try:
check to see if the top thread is going in the right direction. Some machines have the thread coming from behind, some from the front, check your manual.
-check to see if the bobbin is going in the right direction. Your machine probably has a little diagram near the bobbin case, it will show if you should have the thread going clockwise or counterclockwise.
- if the bobbin isn't threaded evenly, you could get jams. Check to see if your bobbin thread is nice and even. If it's incorrectly threaded so the top has more thread than the bottom, it's not threaded correctly so that could cause jams.
-is the needle bent? Or is it in the machine not tightened?
check the manual for these, and if all else fails, you may have to look at the dials- thread tension, etc. But try these other things before you start with the dials.
Good luck!

Having trouble with tension loose threads on back of material

Your upper thread tension is too loose. Tighten it a little and test. (Righty-tighty, Lefty-loosey.) When the upper thread and bobbin thread meet in the middle of your fabric, the tension is correct.

Singer 2250, thread is very loose, even with tension adjustments

ALL sewing machines have two disks that face each other in the thread path that exert tension on the top thread, and when threading you must get the thread between those disks to get any tension on the top. However, on ALL sewing machines, going back to their creation in 1859 (that I know of), you MUST thread your machine with the presser foot UP, because that is the only time the disks are spread to ACCEPT the thread. You have probably been threading your machine with the foot down. Another must as a side note--you MUST turn the hand wheel TOWARDS you at ALL times. If you turn it away from you more than one revolution, you risk throwing off the hook timing.

The tension on my singer is loose

first try changing the needle
then adjust the top thread tension one number or letter and then
sew on a scrap piece of fabric till the stitch improves.

Machine wouldn't stitch. The bobbing keeps bunching up

it is your top threading, totally rethread, insert new needle (flat side face away from you) and do this test, with the presser foot up, pull top thread, it should pull smoothly, lower presser foot, pull top thread again, it should barely move. This should seat the thread in the tension discs.Try your top tension at 3.

New Singer 1507, thread loose and tangled on bottom side

If you are getting a thread mess under the fabric, it is a top thread problem.

Remove the top thread completely from the machine.
ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot and rethread from the beginning. Verify the thread path is correct.
Retest your machine and tweak the tension, if needed.
