tuners work from radio air waves and signals
when you switch to disc you are using a different medium and will require an amp to get noise
have you connected the units correctly at the back
Hello There ar two possibilites for thif fault, and both are related with its tuner circuit board. Either the tuner section do not get proper voltage to function, no tuning will be done or if the varactor diode that helps electronic tuning has got damaged. In both cases, no tunig will be done.
are you using more than one amplifier? it sounds like you may be using the blue wire to turn one amp and and the blue/white to turn the other one on. use the blue/white only. the blue wire is antenna remote and turns off when not in tuner mode.
Is the VCR going through ch 3 or video inputs - if video inputs your TV tuner is likely bad if through ch 3 seeif te picture goes funny on ch 3 without using the VCR the tuner may be bad on higher band channels - smetimes you can remove the tuner and resolder the tuner itself. But if it always works with the VCR just use it that way and don't bother with the fix.
Is your stereo sytem amplified? if so then the remote turn on wire may be hooked up to your power antenna turn on wire. The amp needs to be connected to blue w/ white strip.......not solid blue. The solid blue turns off to lower a power antenna when the tuner is not in use. Blue with white always stays on with tuner cd or ipod.
