I own a sony kv-36fs10 manufactured 10/1999 since I have moved it has sound but no picture. When we were moving the tv was never dropped and was handle with care. Pre-move the tv worked like a champ so I was surprised when I plugged it in at the new house and it made the sound like it was turning on and sound came out of it perfectly but no picture. We have let it stay on for about 5 min. to see if it needed to warm up and have turned it off and on. Is there anything I can check out myself before spending money on it to get it repaired.

Re: no picture, but has great sound
Older television have components that are designed to last for about 10 years. slight movements can cause failures in old Capacitors and loosen connections.
Might sound weird but seriously give the thing a good slap on the side after it has warmed up. if there is any effect AT ALL. take it to a repair man. if not your set may have simply bit the dust and now requires more servicing costs then a new set.

Hi.. Sorry to hear that the Picture is freezing..
Here are some of the steps that you can try:
*Try to connect a different video source with the TV like DVD Player, Blu-ray player and check.
*If the issue persists, disconnect the power cord and reconnect to a different wall outlet without the Power surge protector.
* If the issue persists, you need to contact the nearest service center to fix this.
Yes, you were correct many LCD TVs have problems compared to this TV.
I have a sony trinitron kv35s40 and the problem is picture cuts off after a minute or so. We moved it to another room (it's really heavy 36") and it started with the problem. We live upstairs and can't bring it to a repair shop without a lot of effort. Please help What can it be?
My picture would go out after several minutes but I still had sound. I took the rear cover off and blew all the dust off with compresed air.I did this for a few times over several days nothing happened.I also took off the rear circuit board that attaches to the tube with a round pin socket and blew that with compressed air and put it back on. The TV has now worked for two days without the picture going out. It worked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
dear misskona, I suggest that if you have any technical knowledge the first thing you do is to increase the screen voltage and see if there is a bright line across the screen solder the vertical I.C or remove and fix another working one.if that do not solve the problem there is scat board solder some dry joint.
I have had my Sony KV-32FV15 for about 2 years now and nothing has ever gone wrong(even going through several moves.) I recently moved again and when I plugged in the TV, you can hear the sound perfectly but the screen just stays black. You can not even hear the squeal that the TV makes when comming on. Is there anything that I should initially look at to troubleshoot. I cannot afford at this time the $250 fee to repair my TV. I look forward to your input and hopefully I can get this TV working again.
