I have a toro recycler lawn mower that was made in 2005 according to the sn. it wont start. we have tore it down to check everything but still nothing. It has spark. after pulling a few times we check the spark plug and it is wet with gas. so it is getting gas. we have the air filter off checked the carburator, seems fine. there is compression, I dont know how to check to see if it has enough but it seems as though there should be enough to at least start. we had it going for about 2 seconds once but nothing sense then. Im lost and dont know what to do next. It is a second hand mower so I am not even sure if all of the parts are there and on right but everything seems to be correct. I have checked the parts list. It is a tecumseh engine 6.5 hp. any help you can give I would be grateful for. thank you in advance.

If you have spark and gas, it should start. The plug shouldn't be wet with gas, adjust the carbuerator fuel flow screw to reduce fuel to the engine. Use full choke to get it started

My toro super recycler bogs down while mowing. I have fresh gas, just changed the oil and filter. Any suggestions?

check and be sure the blades are sharp. if the blade gets a rounded edge it wont cut properly and will bog down trying to cut.

Toro lawn mower troubleshooting

A dirty air filter is a common cause of this. Give it a look. Otherwise a replacement carb would be the route to take.

Toro recycler model number SR-21 S lawn mower wont start changed plug, filter, new gas. Mower ran for two lawn cuttings but seemed to overheat and choke out frequintly in high grass now it wont start at...

check your oil is it up to full, then I would check to see if you have compresson, pull your plug and roll over and feel with finger ,but don't touch spark plug wire or you will light up! next I would check for spark, then for fuel, make sure the carb is getting fuel,,,check your hoses and fuel cap and clean your carb and needle/seat and make sure gas will run through the fuel line. Also you could have sheared a flywheel key

the choke out you are talking about could of been a lean condition and smoked the eng rings
Good Luck compresson test should tell all 2StrokeJim

I have a Toro Super Recycler GTS 6.5 HP. Upon starting the mower white smoke comes out of the exhaust (silver housing) on the front. The smoke stops after about 2 minutes of running. Any ideas??

Oil level too high? *(check oil level with dipstick fully screwed down!)

or

Leaking valve guide *(rare.)

Cylinder walls not sealing well and oil leaking past rings. *(less rare...nothing you really can do about....just getting used up)

I would change the oil and be very careful to fill only within the full range.
Then, run the unit once to clear the muffler out.

Good luck and be careful!

I have a 22in recycler lawn mover. the recoil

There is a safety brake on the handle that MUST be held down to start the engine. You must squeeze the safety agaist the handle to operate the mower. If not you will not be able to start the mower.

If your holding the safety mechanism and it is still locked then either the cable has become detached or... borken. Check to make sure the cable is connected to the safety mechanism. If it is and it still does not release then you should in all honesty contact Toro for the nearest warranty repair center.

Thanks for using FixYa.
