Unfortunately, you didn't specify if you needed assistance with programming digital or conventional radio systems.. but here is the info for conventional systems. Since a conventional system is really a collection of frequencies, the
first thing you need to know is the frequency for each channel you want
to program.
The scanner will prompt you for the System Type. Select Conventional .
When the scanner prompts you confirm, tap YES .
The scanner creates the system with a default name. Select Edit Name if you want to change it.
If you need to change any of the system properties, you can do that now. Unless a property is Required , you can operate the system without changing the default settings.
Create at least 1 channel group
Each conventional system can contain up to 20 channel groups, and all systems must contain at least 1 channel group.
On the Program System menu, select the system you just created.
If you need to change any of the channel group properties, you can do that now. Unless a property is Required , you can operate the system without changing the default settings.
Create at least 1 channel in each group
Each conventional system can contain up to 1000 channels in each group, and all groups must contain at least 1 channel.
On the Edit Group menu, select the channel group you just created.
Go to the Edit Channel menu and select New Channel .
Input the frequency for this channel in MHz.
If you need to change any of the channel properties, you can do that now. Unless a property is Required , you can operate the system without changing the default settings.

You should only have to program the CC (control channel) frequencies for P-25 systems. You should be able to pick up all talkgroups. Then you could I.D. and program only the talkgroups you want to hear.
BCD386XT No sound. If it is actually stopping on an active broadcast and if you have the volume turned up (press down on volume button and release, then rotate to adjust) then the most likely cause is a failed speaker. Try a set of headphones in the jack on top by the antenna, if you have sound there it is most certainly a bad speaker. It is a very tiny speaker that is as thin as a nickel, many have been broken by a simple jar or by being played too loud by the hearing impaired. It is not hard to change but basic soldering skills are required. the speaker is available from uniden parts.
You need to go into the menu on your radio, find setup, then auto squelch and select off. return back to normal into face on your panel and problem should be solved.
BCD396>T. The owners manual is 300 pages long, so is not printed. It was supplied on a disc for you to read/print on a computer. Set the printer to print odd pages and load 150 sheets of paper, press print. When finished turn the stack over reinsert in the paper feeder and set the printer to print even pages. Press print. When finished you will have your "book". It will be an inch thick. This is why it was not provided in that form by uniden with the scanner.
You may want to go to BCD396XT on your computer and download an owners manual...or call Uniden to help you program it...or take it to someone that knows how to program it......
BCD396XT While the unit is scanning the public service band (or other preloaded like NEWS etc) press the Func button once, located on the left side (the top one). Now within one second press the L/O button twice. This permanently locks out that system. Pressing the L/O button only once will lock out that band only until the next time you turn the scanner on, then it will be back.
