I have a whirlpool washing machine, LXR7133JQ0, that the balance ring has come totally loose from the inner tub. I can see the metal clips that should attach it. Makes horrid noise so i stopped the load and found the balance ring separate from the tub. I need direction on how to replace this. I have done some other work on this machine (proud to say my hubby calls me the Maytag Repair Woman!). Also saw on another site to order the Filter Plate (item #14 in diagram) in addition to the Balance Ring and Clips. Is this necessary? HELP...

The following images identify an invention that most newer machines included, The ring about half filled with water automatically balances the basket of the washers. If the water has leaked out or the ring has failed the machine will not achieve balance. The ring is replaceable by qualified DIY.
Most units only have the ring on the top of the basket, but some as the bottom image shows have two.
Is the machine level? Does it rock if you push down on any corner? The machine must be level with all 4 feet firmly settled on floor. If you are satisfied level is good then open the loading door and move the tub back and forth (kind of vigorously, but no need to get carried away.) You should hear sloshing sound from the balance ring. If no slosh balance ring will need replaced.
Perfectly normal.. What you are actually hearing is a balance ring on the inner tub that has liquid inside to help keep washing loads balanced. The balance ring is filled with a calcium chloride solution and baffles within the ring allow the fluid to disperse within the ring evenly By rotating the spin basket you can hear the fluid dispersing within the baffles of the balance ring.

just buy the clips, watch a video to remove the housing of the washer. it is a simple fix. should be below $20 to get the clips, j http://www.partselect.com/PS874751-Whirlpool-3956205-Balance-Ring-Top-of-Inner-Tub-White.htm?SourceCode=1&SearchTerm=LXR7244JQ1&ModelNum=LXR7244JQ1#Instructions
What you are hearing is the liquid inside the balance ring at the top of the wash tub. You could set the machine in the center of your driveway and drain every drop of water from the hoses and pump, yet you would still hear the liquid in the balance ring when the machine (more specifically, the inner tub) is moved. It needs to be there to help balance out of balance wash loads.
