This alert popped up on a new system all of 4 months old. I do not have an answer to 80.01 error however with the error my system had completely shut down. I rebooted the thermostat (950 WiFi Com.) which did nothing. I then turned off power to the AC unit at my indoor breaker box for 1 minute and that did reset the AC and allowed the system to come back online.
It sounds like the contactor is stuck in it's closed posation Try tapping it with the plastic end of a screwdriver. If it then starts to work then you will probably have to change the contactor.
There are different codes to insert at the system info page to reset your console to factory setting, depending on your console it may or not may work.
heres 3 examples, buttons has to be entered in sequence, directions are for the d-pad:
LT RT X Y LB RB Down Y Up Down Down Down Down Down
LT RT X Y LB RB Up Y Y X
LT RT X Y LB RB Up LB LB X
That does not sound like a thermostat wire but rather a sticking .contactor If your unit runs after the thermostat shuts off and you tap the unit and it shuts off the contactor is sticking and needs to be replaced.
could be a thermostat problem but even more likely the contactor on the unit outside is stuck. In order to change this part you will have to get in to the outdoor unit. The contactor is the automatic switch that the thermostat energizes when the thermostat calls for aircond. The location of the contactor is in the outdoor unit (electrical section) and where the power will tie in to the unit. It is a little box looking part with terminals where most of the wiring connects. If the contacts are welded together the outside unit will not shut off. If you tempt to replace this part, make a diagram of all the wires connected to it before you take any of them off. Turn off all power to the outdoor unit before inspecting.
You most likely have a short. Start by removing the wire on the terminal marked y in the t- stat then see if it shuts down. Look in the air handler for wires touching together. I have also eound wires touching in the wall from the t-stat.
If the outdoor unit is not shutting off, your indoor coil will freeze up when the thermostat "satisfies" and shuts off the blower. The most common cause of a non-stop outdoor unit is the contactor. This part is usually black or brown in color. The line voltage wires that come from the service disconnect to the outdoor unit hook up directly to this contactor. If you shut all the power off (circuit breakers), the outdoor unit will shut off. You might be able to tap on the contactor to "free" it. This might allow the unit to work for a little while, but 99 times out of 100, once the contactor starts sticking, it will continue to stick. Replace the Contactor. Extra precaution needs to be taken as there are two seperate voltage sources......240 volts from your circuit breaker box and 24 volts from the air handler. You should use a voltage tester prior to performing any electrical work. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lywcF7Lt2n0
I hope you found this information helpful.
Good Luck! :-)
Listen to the unit after you make a pot of coffee. You will hear it start heating the water and then after the water heats up you will hear the unit shut down. If it is not shutting down and is continuing to run then yes you need a new thermostat.
It sounds like it may be the thermostat. turn it down to a normal level and give it a good tap to see if it starts. you may need to leave the door open so it warms up bit so it will start, it wont start if its cold as the thermostat would be satisfied. If it does start the thermostat should be replaced. I hope this helps
