In the display window it says "Check Paper Size" "Reload Correct Paper"
We have letter size paper in there and that is the only type of paper we use. We have shut the machine off to try and reset it but that has not worked. After we take the paper tray out and reload it, it will print the same page every time we follow this step.
This happened on my MFC-9420CN. It turns out the there are blue tabs inside the paper tray that hold the paper in place. If the tabs are not touching the paper, you'll get this "Check Paper Size" error. The printer thinks that you have loaded a different paper tray.

Re: problem with Brother MFC-9420CN
Previous requested print job is sitting in print que is still trying to print, that job that was sent has a page size that is not letter. Open print que on computer....(start/control panel/printers and faxs - in there is driver for 9420, double click printers icon to open print que, delete docs in que. power off and then on printer.
Check default page setup in word or whatever you use also check settings on print driver by right clicking icon and properties.

Make Sure the Paper Trays Are Configured With the Correct Paper Size, Type, and Color
To configure settings for Paper Trays 1 and 2
Open the paper tray.
Make sure that the required paper stock is loaded in the paper tray, and that the paper edge guides are adjusted properly to fit the size of the paper.
Close the paper tray. The Printer Settings screen will be displayed on the Touch Screen.
Select [Size], and then select the size of paper loaded in the tray. If this is a standard size paper, the correct size will be selected automatically if the paper guides are adjusted correctly. If necessary, select [Custom] to enter the paper size if the required size is not displayed and then enter the required X and Y values.
Select [Type], and then select the type of paper loaded in the tray.
Select [Color], and then select the color of paper loaded in the tray.
In most cases if the printer is asking for an unexpected manual feed it is because the paper tray is not set to the right paper size or type. I hope that this can help someone else as it has taken me all day to fix this issue on a C6180 all-in-one machine. I will ignore the normal solutions to a "paper mismatch" error such as your settings not matching your printing media. Obviously, check these first:
If your problem is not solved with the above steps, you have an issue with your "spot sensor" and it needs to be calibrated. Instructions:
1. Press * and # at the same time, and then release both keys. The display reads "Enter Special Key Combo". 2. Press 3, 2, and then 9, releasing each key before pressing the next. The display window should read "Service: R0622M" with a revision number. 3. Press the right arrow button once. The display should read "System Configuration". 4. Press Enter or OK. 5. You will be prompted to enter serial number. Do not enter any information on the unit. Press the right arrow button until "media sense calibration" appears in the display. 6. Load Paper into the unit and then press Enter or OK. 7. Media Sense Calibration process will take place.
It is one of the rare times that HP chat has fixed my printer at no cost and instantly. Here is a full transcript describing my issue and the HP chat solution:
just leave your paper type as Plain Paper, and if your printing out a
5R size photo or photo sizes not exceed on Letter size paper, just
leave the paper sizes using Letter, print on both sides set as OFF.
then just customize the printing quality for a good printing result.
then load or place your photo paper properly on the paper tray to avoid jam.
Your printer is set to default to the Main Paper Feeder, which is probably set for letter size paper. You must tell it to feed cards. On your Windows Desktop, left click mouse on START. left click on CONTROL PANEL, and left click on the PRINTERS icon. On the PRINTERS screen, RIGHT CLICK on your Dell printer icon. On the drop down menu, left click on PRINTING PREFERENCES. On the PRINTING PREFERENCES window, left click on the PAPER/QUALITY tab. Under TRAY SELECTION, choose the PAPER SOURCE where you want your business cards to feed from. Left click on APPLY button. Next, left click on the ADVANCED button. On the ADVANCED OPTIONS window, use the drop-down box next to PAPER SIZE to choose the paper size you want to feed. Press OK button. The PRINTING PREFERENCES window will now reappear. Left click APPLY, then OK buttons. After you have printed your cards, be sure to restore the printer defaults back to their original state, or the printer may jam because it must be programmed for the paper size being used. If you reload letter paper without resetting the paper size, the printer will think there is still card sized paper in the tray, and it will issue a jam or error code until the paper size is set properly.
