The beep sound indicates to me that the fuse is ok and that power is reaching the main control board, but that it is faulty.
Have the main board checked out, you may need to replace it.
the beeps are post during post the very first work is done by the ram,all the memory in the ram is first transferred to the hard disk, and remains active untill turned off. make sure that your RAM is securely seated try replacing all the leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions + IDE,SATAthe ones that attach from your ((motherboard to hard drive)) make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty or just replace them they are probably old and faulty ? hope this helps
Something mechanically has gone wrong with the disk-drive inside the enclosure.
Search online for a professional "data recovery service".
They can disassemble the enclosure, disassemble the disk-drive, and fix it just long-enough to copy your files (onto another disk or onto blank DVD-writable media). Not "inexpensive".
Then, you can use WD's "Customer Loyalty Program", i.e., prove that you previously purchased a WD product, and you'll get a discount on buying another WD product, if you purchase through their web-site (and pay for shipping).
Ok their is a needle that FLOATS above the metal disks inside the hard drive, when that is dropped either when its on or off, if that needle TOUCHED the disk in anyway your drive is scratched and screwed, thats what happened to yours, sorry but you need to buy a new one.
You should only hear 1 beep. That 1 beep is power on self test, known as P.O.S.T. That loud flat line sound (And I'm pretty sure about this), was you're CPU. Just because you ran & passed the stressed test is nothing compared to running the system under load? That's why when you put in you other memory nothing changed. If you hadn’t mentioned you clocked up the FSB I would have come to the same conclusion hearing the loud flat line statement. Can you test the CPU in another board? That is about the only way to be sure it's not the CPU. Memory does not make that kind of sound. Memory makes short & long beeps. You can try clearing the cmos/bios by going to pg. 2-18 in you're user manual. This will reset the bios back to default settings & cross you're fingers!
If I can be of more service, just post back & let me know how thing go.
