SOURCE: 1991 Johnsoon 90 HP outboard hard to start, floods after stop

Hi, You did a good job of assessing the problem. It sounds like the float valve in the carb is the likely problem. This would overfill the carb when sitting, flooding the engine and the pressure in the bulb pump would go down as the fuel leaked out. Float valve should be investigated and that should Fixya!

SOURCE: skipping, lack of power, 4 stroke mercruiser

has your boat been sitting more than 60 days. ethanol gas has been proven to only stay stable for 30 days in 90 degree + weather. Labor cost can be up to $100.00 per hour. CHEAP TEST- compression, spark, and fuel. TOOLS(1) A compression gauge (2) a spark gap tester.(3) A Clymer service manual for your engine. (you can purchase from your local dealer). I know all these are expensive but if your going to be a outboard owner you will always need them. TROUBLESHOOTING (1) check compression. without the year model I'm giving you a average numbers. Look at your Clymer manual for specific numbers. all cylinders need to be over 100 lbs and equal each other within 5 lbs.(2) check spark. use a spark gap tester all cylinders should jump a half inch gap. if you have good compression and good spark, fuel is the problem nine times out of ten. Drain gas tank, clean fuel lines replace primer bulb and replace all fuel filters. Finally replace spark plugs, I know spark plugs probably don't look bad but this is a outboard. Fresh spark plugs means less resistance for the ignition system. The ignition system is week compared to automotive. Test drive boat, if the problem is still there then there is further steps to take. Again I don't know the year model so I guessing its fuel injected. Pull out your clymer manual. what is great about the Clymer Manual for Novice techs is it gives detailed info on your outboard. Troubleshooting tips and teaches you how your outboard works.

SOURCE: Mariner 2 hp outboard engine (1985) not pumping water

My Mariner 8 has a thermostat fitted. It only pumps water when it heats to normal temp.

If your engine stops, it may be a fuel problem. Check the plug and go to Marine Doctor (a) fuel diagnostics, (b) spark plug diagnostics, sections. PK

It's a two stroke, it has a separate spot to put the two cycle oil under the seat. It injects the oil itself, so you just make sure its always has two cycle oil in there and fill the gas tank with straight gas.

2005 yamaha 2 stroke 50 hp runs hot after changing pump and thermostat

Two things could be happening here. One , the impeller for the pump in the leg , was it chipped and pieces missing? If so some parts probably got pushed through the system . If so you'll need to try and flush them out. The discharge water coming fr the back of the engine should be a stream almost like when you were a kid and had to go . If it isn't a steady decent stream then you have a blockages or you put the pump on backwards. I have snaked an engine or two when I couldn't get them to clear but don't recommend that to a person who isn't used to mechanics. ( the one I snaked had a zebra muscle at the water discharge. )

Mercury outboard problems

Is this a two stroke?-If it is you most likely have a primary seal going bad (crankcase seal on the ignition side will lean it out, leaking seal on the other-side of assembly will do just what your describing)Hope this helps you out.....

Where does the water discharge at on a 2000 mercury 25hp 2 stroke outboard motor?

Modern engines have a small "tattletale" discharging water out the back or side to let you know the water pump is working. The majority of the water exits thru the exhaust system to keep it cool and finally out the propeller hub when under way. There may be a small discharge out "idle ports" on the back of the motor. These relieve exhaust gas pressure when at slow speeds or not moving.

Need oil change in water

If its a 2 stroke, there is no oil to change, if its a 4 stroke, you can pump the oil out with a small diameter tube pump.Depending on the motor, you can get it through the dipstick or the fill opening. If you need to change the gear oil, there is no way to change it while in the water. Stop by a marine supply store and get some oil absorbsion pads (diapers) in case you happen to spill any oil into the water
