Hi again, I wrote to you Sunday 6/7/14, and you asked for more details. When I switch on my camera, the lens comes out, a 'LUMIX' white word appears on a black screen, this then disappears, and the screen goes black for a moment. Then, as the picture (scene)the camera is aimed at, should show a picture. Instead, when it is pointed towards a dark area, the screen is black (correct). However, when the camera is pointed to a light source, instead of seeing the light source in the screen, all I see is a pink, very finely, vertically striped haze. No picture, just a pink fuzz on a black background. Please help!
Regards, Neil.
DFid you try to shoot a picture, even not seeing what you are shooting? Try it. Then ale check what happens if you press the display button, (left one under the Menu / set buttons)
Let me know how you and your camera are doing now.

Some say that this could be because the lens is out of alignment. See here: http://www.digitalcamera-hq.com/products/panasonic-lumix-fx12?dj=1&ratings=1
This usually happens due to dust or grit in the camera lens mechanism. I usually dont advise people to fix it themselves but if you are desperate and you need to save the cash and have the patience then follow this article. You will find it worth your while. http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/11/repair-of-stuck-lens-covers.html
Another common problem. Lens troubles. You have either knocked your lens out of alignment or you have a foreign body jamming up the works in the lens control unit.
There have been many so called fixes for these problems but usually end up causing more problems than curing.
You could check that you have fully charged new batteries. Some cameras need that extra kick to get them to open the lens fully. Worn out batteries can stop a sticky lens in it's tracks and tell the processor there is a problem and to close down. It's well worth trying before writing it off.
