Nikon Coolpix p90 lens error 19

A "lens error 19" message on a Nikon Coolpix P90 camera typically indicates a problem with the lens mechanism and the camera is unable to extend the lens out of the camera body.
This error code could be caused by a number of factors, such as:
  • A mechanical malfunction of the lens mechanism,
  • A problem with the lens gears or the drive motor that extends the lens,
  • Obstruction in the lens barrel that is preventing it from extending properly,
  • A malfunction in the camera's firmware.
There are a few troubleshooting steps that you can try before seeking professional repair:
  • Make sure the camera battery is fully charged.
  • Turn off the camera, then remove the battery and memory card. Wait a few minutes, then reinsert the battery and turn the camera back on.
  • Gently tapping the camera on a flat surface to dislodge any dirt or debris that might be blocking the lens.
  • Use a can of compressed air to blow any dust out of the lens barrel.
  • If the lens barrel seems to be twisted, you can try to gently rotate it back into place.
If none of these steps help, it's likely that the camera will need to be repaired by a professional. It's best to contact Nikon customer service or a local camera repair shop for a diagnosis and estimate for repair.
Please note, opening the camera and tampering with the internal component can further damage the camera and will void any warranty it might have

How do I fix my Nikon D80? It is flashing F-- and will not take pictures.

What lens do you have on the camera? The F-- indicates that the camera is unable to communicate with the lens. If the lens has the electronics to communicate with the camera, try cleaning the contacts on the back of the lens and on the camera body. If the lens is a manual lens, set the camera to the Manual exposure mode (turn the mode dial to "M").

Unable to rotate lens all the way for removal on Nikon D3000 SLR

Unable to remove lens - does not rotate completely

Did you press the lock/release button complete and did you hold it till the lens was rotated complete? You know the lens with Nikon goes the other way as with Canon?
Looking to the front of the camera you have to rotate the lens clock wise on a Nikon. Counter clock wise on a Canon.

The following blog outlines some repair options for a lens error. They won't work for all cases, but they're worth a try if the camera's no longer under warranty:

D90 - unable to shoot photo & remove lens from camera body

you must try to remove the lens that lens have some electric contacts and if you set the lens in wrong position that contacts give to the camera some error message

The Camera displays lens error only when it's unable to retract or expand. This usually happens when the internal Hardware that controls the lens fails or any dust particle settles around the lens. In this case, just give slight bumps to the Camera against your palm. If the issue persists then service will be required.

Nikon d40 wont autofocus

Your 28-90 AF-D lens can't autofocus with the D40, which requires AF-S lenses with a focus motor in the lens. Sigma lenses with "HSM" (HyperSonic Motor) in the name also have the focus motor.
