You probably have a reset issue. Contact the mfr and see if they have some kind of reset code.

My Samsung dvd/vhs player will not stay on. Says hello, then bye a couple seconds later

Sounds like a bad power switch. When you push the power button, it will initiate the unit to turn on, but if the switch does not keep the power on to the unit when you let go of the power switch, then the unit goes into shut down mode. Then the unit will display good bye. I would have the power switch looked at first.

Niles keeps that information proprietary, they only let dealers have it. IF you disassemble the unit to get to the main board, you can look for a blown fuse, check fuses with the meter, check the outputs from the transformer with the meter, Other than that you are going to need an audio signal generator and oscilloscope and an ESR meter.

I turned the DVD player off last night and this morning it will not turn on. Any thoughts, suggestions? I do have a DVD in the player that I need to get out somehow....

it is possible that the power supply unit in the DVD has failed. You will need to open and ccheck, the fuse might be open and if a new fuse blows out then the SMPS unit is faulty.
Possible that the Sm driver IC /driver has failed. Possible also for allied components to have failed.
Or else you can change with a new unit.
Helpful?

Thanks for the update. Did you try power cycling the unit?

Shutter

try this:

1.turn on yer unit

2.press the menu button(if it gives you the "turn power off and on again message just switch to play mode or preview mode and access the menu from there.)

3.select setup(the option with the toolbox icon)

4.select setup 1 (not camera 1 ayt?)

5.select initialize and select OK for every prompt.

you\'ll know if you\'ve sucessfully initialized the camera if it will ask you to set the date and time.

if this does not work.... i guess it would be better to have th unit checked by an authorized serivicer.
