Generally you have to push and hold the reset button, i suggest for 30 seconds, this should completely reset the unit, including passwords and settings.
SOURCE: Hard reset for 2 wire router 1020
If you do a hard reset on that sort of router, any information on the router will be lost, and the router will return to factory defaults.
Do you mean that you want to do a hard reset on your FRIEND'S router, so that you can go back to using the OTHER router that you lent him?
look for a small, recessed button on the back, near where the power cord plugs in. you'll probably need a pen or sharp pencil in order to press it.
if you can find that recessed button, hold it down until the lights on your router blink
simultanously, then release it. I know that works on SOME models of 2Wire routers, I'm not certain whether or not this model has the option or not.

How to Reset a Password on a D-Link Router
Use a pen or a paper clip to push the "Reset" button on
the back of the router. Keep the button held down for approximately five
seconds.
Open
a web browser on a machine that is connected to the router. Type
"192.168.0.1" into the navigation text box.
Type
"admin" and leave the password blank. This is the default information
for D-Link routers. When you hold the reset button down, it resets the admin
password to blank.
Click
the "Tools" tab at the top of the D-Link admin console. In this
screen, you can reset the admin password to a new one.
Enter
the new password in the router's console section labeled "Administrator
Settings." Enter it a second time in the "Confirm Password" text
box and click the "Apply" button. The router's password has now been
reset.
