I bought a TOSHIBA 52RV530U HDTV, and am currently unable to control my Philips DVP5960 DVD Player with it. But the Philips control codes I see in the manual (which may be of use to other owners of Philips devices) are: 026, 031, 044, 057 ...oh HEY now i see those are only for Philips VHS machines.

Philips DVD player codes are: 004, 051. At least as of 2008 when the TV manual was published.

I'm using the GE Universal Remote, and found that the four digit code 0914 worked.

You need the sheet that came with the remote. If the manufacturer's codes do not work with your ??, then you need a more modern remote. The codes must ALREADY be in the remote to be used. The code is part of the REMOTE.
