C925de printer. message says 84 defective magenta imaging unit. replaced it as per instructions with a new one. same message as above are both defective or is there another problem?

The problem is most likely a bad Image Unit.

Xerox guarantees their supplies to be free from defects as long as their is a life percentage left and will replace it for free.
Take it back to the store you purchased it from and ask for a replacement, or have them request a replacement for you.

If the magenta fails (within 100 pages) after you replace the Image Unit, then your toner dispense mechanism is failing for the magenta toner, and either a dispense motor will need replaced, or the toner auger will need to be unclogged or replaced.

There is a list of different parts that can be causing this error.

The first one is if its not seated properly. You can take it out and put it back in to make sure it is seated. Having bought a new one means that this is the only simple solution to this problem.

Here are the different parts that may need to be replaced as per the service manual states:

the imaging unit sensor board
the CTG0 harness
the engine control board
imaging unit motor
the lift uplink
the motor driver board
the low voltage power supply

!! that't a lot of possibilities and there are a series of electrical and mechanical tests that must be performed. You will have to call for service. Unless its seated incorrectly.

it shows that yellow and magenta colors gone end, need re-fill or replacement.

Magenta Image unit mite be the problem have it replaced if it already was then mite have a bad new one also check the sensor that monitors the toner for the magenta Also pull out the magenta image unit shake side to side to spread out the develop inside the image unit along the entire length of the image unit reseat the image unit.

You have replaced the toner cartridge but you still have to replace the imaging unit which is the drom that the toner cartridge attaches to.
Toner Cartridge OK, Low, Empty When 15,000
(high-capacity cartridge) or
7,500 (standard-capacity
cartridge) pages are
printed (5% print density).
Imaging Units At/Near end-of-life When 30,000 pages are
printed out or when the
pixel counts are
exceeded.
A fuse in the new
imaging unit will blow
upon installation,
resetting the counter.
Verify color calibration. Clean lenses.

You should print the "Repeating Defects Page" Using the printer's front panel menu keys perform the following steps:

1. With Information highlighted, press the OK button.
   
2. Scroll to Troubleshooting by pressing the Scroll Up or Scroll Down button.
   
3. Press the OK button.
   
4. Scroll to Print Quality Probelms by pressing the Scroll Up or Scroll Down button.
   
5. Press the OK button.
   
6. Scroll to Repeating Defects Page by pressing the Scroll Up or Scroll Down button.
   
7. Press the OK button to print the Repeating Defects Page.

Most likely you have a defect on your magenta imaging unit. Switch the Magenta and Cyan imaging units and try the test print....if you have blue spots 3 3/4 then it is the imaging unit (drum). If not you may need to change the belt cleaner assy.

If it isn't the imaging unit then it will be a problem with the fuser rollers, so replace the fusing assembly.

Sounds like some of the magenta toner is left behind on the drum. The only way to fix it is to get a new cartridge.

sounds like the wrong image unit. Oce and ollivetti have the same machine and take the same image unit but with a different chip. Make sure it is a genuine konica minolta image unit. If need be try putting the chip from the old unit on the new one and see if lays down the colour

When you take the toner cartridge off the imaging unit, is there magenta toner in the open slot of the IU? Assuming that there is nothing wrong with the toner cartridge, you are possibly looking at a bad engine control board.
