Question about Kenmore Elite HE5t Washer

2 Answers

Have Kenmore Elite HE5t Mod.#110.47799 701. Got Error Code F35/Suds; replaced analog water pressure level sensor 3 mos. ago and worked fine until a couple of nights ago. Got same code again and washer shuts off. Replaced same part last night (thinking replacement part put in 3/14 was bad), and still got same error code. Washer won't run, same code(s). What next?

Opinion: Just to voice an opinion and add my experiences with the Sud/F35 error. I see entirely too many F35 error posts on the internet and people struggling to get their machines back in operation. If the manufacturers are going to have a diagnostic it should pinpoint the cause of the error, not just get you in the ballpark.
My Experience: With the Sud/F35 error, the diagnostic would not sequence beyond the C00. Replacing the pressure switch did not fix. Although the drain pump/filter was clean I replaced it anyway, in case it was not evacuating the tub sufficiently, to no avail. Since the check of the Steamer said it was functioning O.K. the only possible part left that would give the error symptoms was the Central Control Unit. As a last resort I replaced it and the error code went away and the machine functions properly. The point I am trying to make here is that the F35 error code often is due to the pressure switch but if the diagnostic will not sequence it likely (based on a sample of one) is due to the very expensive Central Control Board.

SOURCE: washer starts to begin wash cycle then says suds then error code f35 appears then washer shuts off

F35 is a water level error.
The water level switch (pressure switch) has malfunctioned.

If you remove the top panel, three screws in the back, you will have access to the pressure switch.

With the tub empty, remove the vinyl hose from the switch and blow backwards through the hose to clear any restrictions.

If the fault codes return after doing this, you will likely need to replace the pressure switch.

Also - please be sure to use He soap.

The "SUDS" error can be caused by too much detergent, improper detergent, drain pump/drain line problem, or pressure switch malfunction.

1. If you are not using HE detergent, you need to be. These washers are designed to use HE detergent which is formulated for wash tubs that use 5 to 7 gallons of water. If you use regular detergent, you are, in affect, placing a higher concentration of detergent in the washer that is normally formulated for wash tubs that have a 35 gallon capacity. The manufacturer should have a disclaimer in the owner's manual explaining this. In most cases this will also void your warranty. NOTE: Prolonged use of the wrong detergent can damage the drain pump components and or wash tub seals.

If you are using the correct detergent, double check the label to make sure it is not double (2X) or triple (3X) concentrated. You could still be placing too much soap in your wash.

To get rid of excessive detergent, place the washer on a RINSE & SPIN cycle, then run it through a normal wash cycle with NO detergent added. You may have to repeat these steps depending on the amount of detergent used.

2. If you do not have a detergent issue, double check the drain pump and drain lines to ensure they are not obstructed in any way. Click on the following link for step-by-step instructions:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385844-checking_drain_pump_kenmore_elite_front

Obstructions in the drain pump and/or drain lines can attribute to air getting trapped in the drain pump and cause the error code. Double check all electrical connections to the drain pump and Central Control Unit (CCU). You will need to remove the top panel of the washer to access the CCU. This is accomplished by removing the three screws in the back of the washer that hold the top panel in place. With the screws removed, slide the panel back, then off. The CCU is located directly behind the wash tub in the center of the washer. The Drain Pump connector will be the 6th connector (facing from the front L to R) in the center of the CCU.

3. Check the Pressure Switch to ensure it is good. The Pressure Switch is located to the right of the CCU as you are looking from the front. It is a small cylindrical shaped device with a connector plug and an air hose attached. The switch can be checked at several water levels by removing the plug and taking resistance readings at the connector pins. Readings are as follows:

(Pins are numbered R to L facing the from the REAR)

Pins 1 to 2 (SUDS Detect) – 0 ohms
Pins 3 to 4 (Overflow) – 0 ohms
Pins 4 to 5 (L1) – 0 ohms
Pins 4 to 6 (Empty) – 0 ohms

HOW TO FIX A F 35 ERROR CODE

The F35 error code indicates an analog pressure sensor error. The analog pressure sensor is the component that detects water level in the washer tub. This error can usually be cleared but it will occur again if the main control board still detects a problem with the signal from the analog pressure sensor. This error code can be caused by a problem with the air pressure tube between the bottom of the washer tub and the analog pressure sensor. If you are able to unplug the washer and check this air pressure tube, you may be able to resolve this problem. The analog pressure sensor can be accessed by pulling off the top panel of your washer. Remove the screws at the very back of the top panel and then pull it back slightly and then up and off of the washer. The analog pressure sensor is Key 38 in the first image below. With the washer unplugged, check the connection of the air pressure tube to this component. Check the entire air tube down to its connection to the bottom of the washer tub. You will likely need to remove the back panel of the washer to check the entire air pressure tube. If you find a kink, tear, hose or loose connection in the air pressure tube, then this is the likely cause of your F35 error code. If the air pressure tube appears to be okay, then you will likely need to replace the analog pressure sensor. If the problem still exists after replacing this component, then the main electronic control board for the washer will need to be replaced. If you are not completely confident in your technical ability to safely access and check these components, I recommend calling a service technician to diagnose and repair the washer.

Suds code then F35

Hi

Error code F 35 indicates ANALOG PRESSURE SENSOR FAILURE. There is any malfunction of the component detected by the Steamer Electronic Board. Please check whether the pressure hose is fixed firmly, and the air trap is not blocked. Make sure the hose is not plugged. If this doesn't resolve the issue then it is a problem with the water level pressure switch operation. There could be a blockage in the air dome or pressure switch hose. The air dome is located on the back of the tub on the left hand side. If the pressure switch hose and the air dome is clear of any blockages, then there is an issue with the water level pressure switch, you would need to replace it. Hope this helps...please post back for further assistance.

I have a kenmore HE5t code SUD and F35 keep coming up. i opened front bottom cover and cleaned out trap. tried running a clean cycle and code SUD came up again and the the F35 what could it be now???

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. Error F 35 means ANALOG PRESSURE SENSOR FAILURE- If this failure is displayed then there is any malfunction of the component detected by the Steamer Electronic Board.

1. Check if pressure hose is fixed correctly.
2. Check if the air trap is not blocked.
3. Check if the hose is not blocked

If it still not works then it is a problem with the water level pressure switch operation. There could be a blockage in the air dome or pressure switch hose. The air dome is located on the back of the tub on the left hand side. If the pressure switch hose and the air dome are clear of any blockages, then there is an issue with the water level pressure switch.

Please do rate the solution if the issue is resolved or else post a comment for further assistance.

Thanks

F-35 code

t mean the pressure switch in the washer that detects the water level is not functioning.
The F35 indicates a water level pressure sensor failure. The SUD is normally displayed when there is excessive detergent suds in the tub. A loose wire harness connection could be causing this problem is there is no water or suds in the tub. I recommend unplugging the washer and removing the top panel. Screws at the very back of the top panel secure it to the washer frame. Remove the screws and then pull the top panel slightly back and then up and off of the washer. The analog water level pressure sensor is shown in the first image below. The second image shows a clear picture of this component. Check the wire harness connection on this sensor. If you find a loose connection, secure the wire harness properly on the component then reassemble and test the washer. If you continue to get the F35 code, then this component will need to be replaced. You can order a new analog water level pressure sensor from the Sears PartsDirect website.
If you need more help with this problem, resubmit your question with additional details and the full model number of your Kenmore Elite HE5t Steam washer.
