Toshiba Gigabeat-U MP3 Player suffering "USB ERROR #203"

This error usually happens when the firmware has been corrupted or deleted. The easiest way to correct this is by updating the firmware. You may also try to restore the firmware data by following the steps below.

1. Connect the gigabeat to your computer using a USB cable.

2. Start Explorer on the PC.

3. Open the folder in which the gigabeat room is installed.
--> The folder in which the gigabeat room is installed can be opened by clicking [Start] [All Programs] [TOSHIBA gigabeat room 2.0] [gigabeat room 2.0
Program Folder]. Usually, the folder will be found in C:\Program Files\TOSHIBA\gigabeat room 2.0.

4. If you can't find the folder, please go inside the gigabeat then click on [tools], [folder option], go to [view tab] then select [show hidden files and folders].

5. Now, inside the gigabeat root, copy a folder named "GBSYSTEM" located in the folder that was opened in Step 3.

6. Use "Safely Remove Hardware" and disconnect the gigabeat.

transfering is not a a problem its a player problem have  you ever format your mp3 player?

I have the same problem. If you have a large library try letting it stay hooked up for a long time. It seems like it is taking inventory of device then it should work after a while. Sometimes this works. Sometimes I have to unplug then try again in a few minutes.

Make sure the hold or lock switch is not engaged - try resyncing

if still no, then go to Start --> Control Panel --> System --> Hardware --> Device Manager --> USB Controllers - look for a yellow exclamation, and right click it, update driver

Ok, I figured out a solution on my own.

Remarkably simple - all I did was reformat the player again and then reinstall windows media player.

im ahving an extremely simmilat problem but my gigabeat is connecting diisconecting (repeat) and my computer is not doing anything

Try reformating the player using gigabeat format program see pg.52 owner's manual than restore the firmware data in the player see pg.51

Sometimes when the Gigabeat's battery dies out fully with no life in it, you cannot recharge it via USB. You must use the AC connection to charge it. If you do not have the original charger, you can use a Sony PSP charger.
