Rca rt2360 When I power it on it says overload and shut back off

  • Anonymous Nov 11, 2007

Moved my unit....gently....to install new carpet. Replaced to same setup, turned it on and got "overload". fuses and pcb boards look good and components seem to be securly attched, no bits of speaker wire or loose screws bouncing around....perhaps a hammer is the right tool??

Watching TV and the unit shut down and went into "standby" mode. All attempts to turn the unit back on result in "overload" message on the front display and no power.
Any suggestions or is it just time for a new unit?

Possible short in output amplifier darlington transistors. Check cable connections first, but if that doesn't help, it is likely a amplifier problem

When i turn it on it clicks and it says overload then shuts off

Generally speaking, an amp attempts to protect itself from heat, shorts, overloads and operator exuberance by refusing to turn on or stay on.

Overloads can be from excessive periods of high output or marginally low impedance loading by the speakers; and shorts would be wiring issues or a speaker blowing up.

You should be able to feel if it's hot. WHY is it overheating? Make sure it has sufficient ventilation on all sides and that vent holes are not blocked by dust balls. Ensure the fan (if equipped) is running as designed (some only operate on demand). Clean dust and debris from it.

If the amp comes back on after cooling, you're lucky. They only have so many self-protection cycles in their lives so continuously resetting or cycling their power without addressing the cause can do more harm than good.

If it protects immediately on a cool power up you should disconnect the speaker connections and try it 'nekkid'. If it comes up then diagnose which lead(s) are shorted. If it does not come up the problem is internal and should be left to an experienced and competent hands-on tech.

I need to replace the speakers for my RT2360 System, can you recommend a source for this?

rca is no longer the same rca that built that stereo ---as a result there arent parts available--i work for an rca servicecenter --all thats available are tv parts --i recommend shopping for generic replacements at either mcm electronics or parts express --both have thorough websites and comparable replacements

Home Theatre System

Check the speaker wires going to the back of the unit. Any stray wires that cross can and will cause overloads to the audio output IC's. Make sure the wire strands are twisted tightly and then inserted into the spring clips.
