The setting of my touchpad has changed. i want to double click on touchpad to open file but i am struggling

In Mouse Properties you can select single or double-click for opening files. This may resolve the issue. If your touchpad has a separate properties/adjustment window you will see the same options there. Select double-click.

Double clicking, left button

Hello, if the mouse is double clicking randomly means the mouse button or button soldering are broken, maybe you might want to try opening it up and resoldering the mouse button, if it doesn't work you can use an old mouse button that fits the space and solder that one in the mouse that's having problems, reassemble and see if it works, the good news is that most of the time it does.

I have a manhattan wireless mouse, model number 176811. the pointer works fine but when i double left click to open anything nothing happens, i have to hit the button 3 or sometimes 4 times to open file??

You may not be double clicking fast enough. In the Windows System Control Panel, there is a Mouse Settings control panel. You can adjust the double click rate in the Mouse Settings control panel.

The left mouse button doesnt work every 4th press...

I believe the switch inside the left mouse button has worn out or broken that made you think after pressing 4 times you were able to trigger the switch and make the mouse to work. You may open your mouse carefully to see if this is the case. If not please follow the below steps as you might need to configure the mouse double click speed.
Open control panel>Double click on the mouse icon>Button Tab>Double Click section>Adjust your double click speed.

Cannot use the double click feature on my mouse

To modify the mouse settings, open the property sheet using Start > Control Panel > Printers and Other Hardware > Mouse and select the Buttons tab as shown below. Check boxes and sliders allow the necessary modifications to be performed.
There is even a Click Lock function that is very handy for those that have trouble holding down the mouse button while using the drag and drop function.
The button configuration and Double-click speed settings must be set properly. Then it can solve your double-click problem.

Mouse sometimes double clicks so that it opens 2 things at a time, what is causing that. It also seems to be sticking I have to press it a couple of times to get it to click

You need to go into the control panel and choose the mouse icon.
From there you can set the double-click speed. They give you a little box to click to calibrate the click speed.
