Good Afternoon Friend,

I understand that the ice maker in your Frigidaire refrigerator, model# FRS3R5EMB, does not release the ice cubes from the dispenser. I suggest resetting your appliance, by either unplugging it or shutting the power off at your home's circuit breaker, for 3-5 minutes. Sometimes there can be a miscommunication between the different boards inside your appliance. Restore power and try to dispense ice. I ask that you please follow up with a comment on the post, at your convenience, to advise if further troubleshooting is needed or if your appliances status has changed successfully. Hope this is helpful.

-Best Regards-

SOURCE: crushed ice only

Behind the ice bucket is a metal housing that holds the auger motor and solenoid.  The solenoid is bad.  When you go for cubed ice that solenoid should pull up the metal rod on the ice bucket so full cubes will come out.  First check to make sure the metal rod on the ice bucket isn't somehow caught under the solenoid and not letting if move up and down.  You can take out the ice bucket and press for cubed ice.  You should hear a loud clunk noise.  If not then you know the solenoid is not working.

SOURCE: Ice maker only produces crushed ice

not really a reset button but htere is a solenoid that controls the type of ice coming out of dispenser. with the ice bucket in place give a look at it from underneath and find the brass rod spanning from front to back of bucket. that rod hooks into a solenoid catch that when activated lifts the rod up and down for crushed/ or cubed ice.. after locating the "hole" in which the rod enters you should also see a corresponding plastic ring that would catch the rod upn activating stich and pull/up and down.. Ill assume that the "catch ring" is tuck in the up positon , might only be frozen up in which case you can hit it with a hair dryer to melt it, its also possible that the \solenoid had melted it self in the up position in which case you need to replace it.. to check this theory you can hook the brass rod into the ring assy in which case youll only dispense cubed no crushed

Hello....remove the from cover on the ice maker, and adjust the water flow screw inside. Turn the screw in the direction of the (-) negative side by half a turn to start. Adjust as needed. I hope this helps. ;)

SOURCE: Ice maker frozen on "crushed" ice mode

Check the bar below the icemaker bin. There is a gold color metal bar that goes from the front of the bin to the back and goes into a lever at the back of the freezer. If the bar gets on the wrong side of the lever it will be stuck in crushed mode.

SOURCE: ice maker not working

Try swapping the wires on the dual water inlet valve. It’s on the back where the water supply comes in. Then try the water dispenser. The water should go to the ice maker. This will tell you weather or not the ice maker valve is working and if the line is clear.

The water inlet valve on the back of unit opens when the ice maker needs water. If the valve doesn't seal good because of sediment or wear it will continue to drip and when the water reaches the ice maker supply tube it will freeze blocking the fill tube.. You can take the water line off the valve and watch to see if it drips.

A strainer before the inlet valve can also get stopped up restricting flow.

My ice maker isn't despensing enough ice fast enough to fill the ice bucket up

Ice makers spray cold water upward into cube shaped trays that freeze the water almost instantly upon contact . Then when you press the ice dispenser a heater comes on that releases the ice cubes from the metal trays. If it is very old replacement probably a good option.

Freezer wont make ice cubes

This is not difficult to troubleshoot.
  • When the arm is up the ice maker is off
  • When the bucket is full the arm is up the maker is off.
  • If the ice maker has a on/off button in off the ice maker is off
  • If the ice maker internal heater fails the cubes will not release and the white plastic ejector arms will be rotated CCW and pressing against the ice in the tray, Normal position for ejector arms is vertical.
  • If water solenoid has failed or water supply not available the ice maker will cycle. The ice tray will be empty,(hard to see if ice tray is empty). Check and replace water fill solenoid.
  • If ice in tray and ejector arms vertical several possibilities.
    • Freezer not cold enough to trip thermostat in ice maker to initiate release cycle.
    • Check freezer temperature <10 Fahrenheit thermostat in ice maker failure
    • Ice maker motor failure,
    • Internal ice maker electrical connections rotary switch failure,
The best way to check the operation is to manually lock the arm up into the off retention position. Wait a minimum of one hour. Open door and release arm down. Observe the operation of the ice maker. Is after a minute or so the ejector arm does not rotate then it is likely the ice maker has failed internally. If the ejector turns and no ice than you can assume either the water supply is off external from the refrigerator or more likely the water solenoid located behind the bottom back cover has failed. It is also possible that the hose that connects the solenoid to the ice maker has frozen right where it enters the freezer just above the ice maker. You should see ice built up at the entrance where the water fills the tray if this has occurred.

How do I fix my ice maker? It has ice in it but it just will not release it into the tray.

Hello Neal, There is a heating element in the bottom of the ice cube tray that warms up to release the ice cubes. I would say that yours has burned out.

Ice Maker will not release the frozen ice cubes from tray

The icemaker use an avaporator system with an heatinc coil and a fan to release cubes.

In your case either the heating coil or the fan in the icemaker must be replaced.

parts can be purchased from partselect.com.

Ice Maker Freezing Up and Ice not dispensing

Check your ice cube tray to see if it is warped. Mine was. I took the tray off and dipped it into boiling water and remoulded it to the original shape and re-installed it. So far no problems. The tray gets warped because of the ice cube release mechanism. The tray is rotated around until it meets a block on one corner which creates the twisting motion we used to do on manual trays. Over time it tends to warp the tray. Good luck
