How to get my Amana fridge to stop leaking water from the freezer to the refridgerator?

About every 24 hours water drains out of several slots located in the top left front of the fridge. This started a couple of days ago. Otherwise unit is working fine. It does not have an ice maker. I have cleaned the seals and adjusted the freezer door. Don't know if that worked yet, just trying to hedge all my bets.

These Amanda units appear prone to this problem. The fix is use of a drain kit. Your drainage spout is freezing over. The regular spillage is related to the defrost cycle of the fridge. Here is a page listing the kit:

SOURCE: Amana French Door Refrigerator "on" but no cooling; freezer still works

There are 2 possible problems. One is the defrost cycle is not working properly this is usually indicated by a large amount of frost on the back freezer panel. If so, the circuit will have to be repaired and the evaperator thawed to remove the ice build up. The other is the fresh food damper is not working properly this is behind the "lump" in the back of the fridge compartment above the top shelf, remove the louver panel to see if it is open or closed. closed will be warm open should be cold. The water dispenser reservoir is probably frozen due to poor air circulation.

If you are sure the fan in the freezer is running and you don't feel any air flow out of the top middle vent inside the fridge section, then the damper motor must be bad. The damper motor is behind that vent cover inside the fridge section.

yes the evap fan in the frezer should be running when the compressor is running[it may not for a minute or so as it starts up.Amana's are good for the connectors at the evap fan motor comming apart.the connectors are white and will look like its together but when you pull it will come apart.i would always cut the connector out and use a wire nut so wont happen again.if any other questions please email thru FixYa and i will be glad to help. SOURCE: Amana Refridgerator won't dispense water or make ice.

  • Hi: You did your homework and checked everything. You said you checked the water flow to the refrigerator, and it was fine. Although what you described sounds like no or low water flow to the solenoid. I'm referring to the valve the water line is connected to. When they "rattle" it means there is not enough or no water pressure keep them open. These valves usually have a gravel filter. As you say it's a scratch and dent. The filter may clogged with gravel, or mildew (as it sat unused as a scratch and dent for who knows how long.) You sound handy. Before I replace that valve I would remove it and look where the inlet water is attached. Usually there is a screen behind a cap you will have to unscrew the size of an garden hose cap. See if there is a screen that can be cleaned. I'll lind the Sears parts direct page to you with the part no. #10 on the diagram. http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/getSubComp.pd?modelNumber=AFD2535DEB&productCategoryId=0161000&brandId=1268&modelName=AMANA-REFRIGERATOR&diagramPageId=00012&componentDescription=CABINET BACK&documentId=M0705005&backToLink=Return to Sub Components list The clogged screen would make the valve vibrate like you described. I hope this helps, Jeff

SOURCE: Amana ABD2533DEB Bottom Freezer - Fridge not working

Sounds like the circulating fan is either gone or is going bad. This problem is hard to diagnose because sometimes the fan will run but not fast enough to circulate the air through the freezer and refrigerator. I would have your repairman look at this or if you have the know how then you can order the fan and replace it yourself.

Samsung SR-42NMB fridge leaking!

This is caused by a blocked defrost drain. The cold air for the fridge is vented from the evaporator behind the freezer. Once every 24 hours the defrost timer, stops the compressor and applies power to a heater at the freezer evaporator coils. The defrosted water drips and runs to a drain normally into a metal tray on the compressor where it evaporates. On my GE fridge freezer there is a hose and a small p-trap at the rear. Easy to remove, soak in bleach and hot water and then flush through. Help for Samsung drains in the link.

This cycle last about 20 minutes. The melted frost drips into a drain pan and through a drain tube to the drain tray under the freezer/refrigerator where it's evaporated by the condenser fan.

Your drain tube may be stopped up with ice at the upper end because it drains too slow because it's stopped up at the lower end in the evaporator pan under the unit at the floor. It can get dust and mold in it. Once you get the ice out at the top a little pressure with a turkey baster will usually clear it out. Flushing it out with hot water and clorox may help.
Make sure it drains quick enough to prevent refreezing. . The drain should be located below the evaporator coils on the lower back of the freezer.
Take a bare copper wire and wrap it around a fin near the heater and put the other end a few inches down the drain. The heat convection may prevent it from freezing.

Kenmore Refridgerator leaking water into refridgerator compartment from freezer compartment

You most likely have a clogged drain. When you freezers goes into defrost every 8 to 10 hours. The frost that is melted during the defrost drains from the freezer either down through the fridge or out the back and down. Either way it drains into a pan under the fridge. This tube is either clogged or the drain it's self inside the freezer is. Most of the time I find peas stopping the water from draining from the freezer. When the water can't drain it leaks through the bottom of the freezer into the fresh food section of the fridge. You will need to fix this because it will cause other problems. The water that cant drain from the freezer refreezes and will end up destroying the foam in the bottom of the freezer. Water will also leak onto the controls located in the part between the freezer and fresh food section ruining you controls.

I have an Amana refirgerator with a top freezer and had the same problem. I turned off BOTH the frig and the freezer for 24 hours. That allowed every thing to dry out. It has been running now for a week with no problem.

It sounds like your defrost cycle has stopped working. unplug your fridge for 24 hours and let it defrost. plug it back after 24 hour and if it starts to cool in the fridge part at about 40 degrees F. you will have to replace one of three parts the Defrost Timer, Defrost Themo or Defrost Element. I hope this helps you.

Whirlpool refrigerator w/ top freeezer

It has a plugged defrost drain. You may need to defrost for 24 hours with unit unplugged and doors open. UNPLUG FIRST!! f still leaks, you need to remove floor of freezer, then the back wall of freezer. Remove ice. At center rear under coils is the drain hole that is plugged up. Use hair dryer to melt ice. Pour hot water in this area to uncover drain. With hot water in area, you can put a 1/4 diam. hose or copper pipe in drain and blow into it while pressing down. It will slowly go through ice, clearing drain.
