The carbs are plugged. Take the bowl off the carburetor by loosening the nut on the bottom. You'll want to clamp the fuel line before you do this. That nut has a small hole that goes through the nut from side to side, and one that connects them in the center. Use a wire brush to knock all the deposits loose, making sure that the holes are clean and free of obstruction. Put it all back together, and it should run fine.

Motor fires up fine runs slightly rough for about 10 seconds then smooths out for about 5 seconds and cuts off. Will start right back up after about 5 seconds and does the same thing. I have drained the...

Previous owner had way overfilled crankcase oil. Oil had gotten into carb and clogged air filter. Drained oil to correct level. Ran engine but kept cutting off-see above. Took off carb cover cleaned housing and ran without air filter-ran fine. Unsuccessfully tried to clean air filter with gas-did not work. Apparently, the engine could run just long enough to exhaust the air in the old filter and cut off which is why it would start back up after a few seconds. Bought new air filter-whole thing-about $15 at Carquest. Put in some carb cleaner and installed the new filter and it runs perfectly.

Carburetor is probably gummed up with old gas. Try putting carb cleaner through it, let it soak for a few hours and try again with new gas/oil mix. Always drain and run dry when finished using it.

My hedge trimmer will not start... Put in new gas

It's not getting gas, due to being gummed up with old gas. Remove all of the old gas and mix up a batch of fresh gas&oil. Also get some carb cleaner. Put just a little of the gas&oil mix plus an equal part carb cleaner. Try to start it just to work the new mixture through the carb. You might use the spray start to help pull the new gas through. If it fires up on the new gas&oil&carbcleaner mix, shut it off and let it sit for an hour or two. Drain it out and try just a little gas&oiil without the carb cleaner. If all is well fill the tank. If not, repeat the whole process. If you can't clear the gum this way you may have to remove the carb to clean it. Good luck.

Mantis tiller starts but will not stay running

Carburetor problem. Two stroke engines use oil mixed with gas. Old fuel or setting over the winter will cause varnish and sludge in the Carburetor. Start by buying a can of carburetor cleaner and mixing a new can of fuel.
1) Dump the old fuel and check replace it with new.
2) Remove the air cleaner.
3) Pump the prime bulb 3 or 4 times, set the choke, spray the insides of the carb with the cleaner and then try and start it . It should sputter and run for a few second but chances are it will take a few sprays to clean the jets

Wont run ,gas comes through rocker area of ohv where the cover go

First the float or needle valve will be bad causing gas to get into the oil. The carb would need to be properly repaired then the valves/lifters must be properly adjusted. After this the oil would need to be drained and new oil added. If you over adjusted the lifters the engine will not run and could damage the head or push rods. Hope this will help

MY mantis tiller will start and run for just a few seconds and then it stops. It has new gas and oil in it.it had old gas and oil mis in it but I dumped it all out and got new gas and oil mix....

you probably have gum or varnish built up inside the carb. take it apart and clean all the ports and jets with fresh gas. drain the float bowl and fill it with fresh gas as well. if you are not familiar with carbs, best not take it apart yourself, or pay VERY close attention to how it came apart.

Slow starting tiller

Anytime an engine uses a gas/oil mix there is a possibility that the carbon this mix produces clogs the muffler making air flow next to impossible. First check to see if it will run better without the muffler. If it does you will need to clean the muffler by removing it and burning the carbon out with a torch. If this isn't the problem, then it may by your carb. Remove it, clean well with carb cleaner, replace the diaphragm if needed for as the diaphragm gets older it becomes stiff and will not pump the gas to the engine. When you reinstall the carb, turn the adjustment screws all the way in and the one and a quarter turns out to start with, making further adjustments from there after it starts. Hopefully one of these is your solution.

Fg 110 mini tiller by honda

I have had the same problem.
The first time the solution was to replace the rubber membrane underneath the primer bulb. Take off the bulb, then remove the plastic part underneath the bulb. There is a rubber membrane underneath that. The ethanol in the gasoline tends to deteriorate the membrane. The honda dealers sell them for about 14 dollars.

The second time the problem was caused by the gas cap, not properly venting. In this case the engine would start and run, but when I gave it full throttle, it would quit.
It got so bad that it wouldn't even run. I noticed when I loosened the gas cap it ran great.
So I took off the cap, removed the inner parts, and got a diaper in and pushed it though the holes in the plastic part underneath the cap, and through the rubber plug in the center. I did this a few times and check with my mouth to see if I could pull some air through the cap. When it breathed satisfactorily, I put the cap back on the gas tank and it ran great. Now it runs better than new.

Yard machine tiller won't stay started!

There is a small diaphram on the side of the carb that simply wears out. It's rubber coated mesh and the rubber coating breaks down and it stops pumping fuel into the carb. Sometimes you can run with the choke on partially, but it will burn 10 times the amount of fuel and cause more damage to the engine itself. I think it's about a $10.00 part.
