Have you been trying to set the program by manual (by TV buttons). If you can set it manually, aim the remote straight forward at the TV sensor and press then notice the light is responsed (blingking each pressing time). If it does not response, the problem may come from the sensor or remote. You need another good remote to isolate this problem. Alternatively, you can try this remote with another Samsung TV (if possible) to see how it works.

Your remote should of come with a document which would of had the codes for the TV you use, if not you can download the codes by typing Samsung and model number for the universal remote model in google. You should get some responses.

Hi Damien,

Unless you have an 'intelligent' remote (e.g. Samsung), then you'll have to program either remote to sync with the other device. For example, if you want to use your original TV remote, then you'll find a program procedure and code in your TV manual (or online). There will be a remote button sequence you follow, including the input of the code that corresponds with your DVD model (e.g. Sony). If the remote takes the code, then it is actually programmed and should communicate with your DVD in a generic capacity. Sometimes your device remote has device-specific features that only its original remote would be able to access, so don't get rid of the DVD remote.

I've attached a link to Samsung's programming sequence -- yours would be different of course with a different mfg.

If the remote is an old model, then it won't be programmed with a specific code for your exact model of TV. Try any of the Samsung codes, or do an Auto code search.
