How to diagnose washer timer not turning?

On my 8 year old washer/dryer combination this afternoon the washer timer stopped turning using the center knob even when pushed in. I can still turn it by rotating the outer knob, however it is not ideal and I'd like to replace the broken part. How do I even diagnose which parts I need before ordering a timer plus the two knobs? Thanks, Deyan

SOURCE: Frigidaire Washer Model FWT449GFS1

needlenose pliers grabbing the center shaft (white plastic around a brass center around a screw), turned counterclockwise will free the remainder of the broken knob and allow you to remove it and then screw on the new part.

SOURCE: Removal of the timer knob.

you have two different knobs to replace?..is it the water level knob or the timer knob?
if its the timer knob you need to remove, look underneath the timer and you will find a black plastic pin depressed at the middle. pull it slowly for about 1/4 of an inch.

then you can remove the knob in the front of the timer switch.

in putting it back, install the knob first in the timer and then depressed that black plastic pin to lock the knob.

be carefull not to pull the plastic pin all the way out. it would be very hard to put it back in.

cheers,

SOURCE: cold water constantly runs even when the knob is

If it fills with water and starts the cycle and the water keeps running in then your water inlet valve on the back where the water supply comes in is sticking. It needs replacing. The cold side can fail independently of the hot side.

Good Afternoon Bernard,

I understand the washer of your Frigidaire laundry center, model# GLEH1642F, is leaving grease in your clothes. I also see that you noticed the grease in the detergent cup. I suggest contacting your local authorized technician for further assistance. They will be able to diagnose your washer and determine where the grease is coming from to be able to repair your appliance. Hope this is helpful.

Countdown timer not working

Good Afternoon Friend,

I understand that the timer on your Electrolux dryer, model#EIMED55IIW, is not advancing to show you how much time is left on the dry cycle. I suggest resetting your appliance, by either unplugging it or shutting the power off at your homes circuit breaker, for 3-5 minutes. Restore power and restart your dryer. I ask that you please follow up with a comment on the post, at your convenience, to advise if further troubleshooting is needed or if your dryer status has changed successfully.

Brand new Frigidaire FFLG2022MWO Washer/Dryer Laundry Center. After a wash cycle is finished, the washer will start again after a few minutes. A truly never ending cycle. Please help.

Good Afternoon Mauricio, thank you for your question! Try resetting the unit by either unplugging it or flipping the household circuit breaker to the off position. Wait roughly ten minutes and turn on the appliance. Select a normal cycle and verify if the washer continues to run after ending cycle. If resetting the power does not correct the issue, your appliance could be experiencing a communication error with the control board, timer or could have a wiring failure. I would suggest contacting an experienced service technician to determine the precise cause.

Good afternoon! I have a GE Spacemaker Electric

I am not a repair professional. I am a 78 year old man who has been making his own repairs for about 50 years. So the washer or dryer ID doesn't mean much to me. I came to fixya looking for a schematic for an really old AM/FM radio and found that more than 4,700 people were asking for help with a washer repair. I recently had a washer repair of my own and at that time I found an excellent video which showed me how to take my machine apart. This video made it possible for me to do my own repair. If you are repairing a dryer or a front load washer I suggest you
go to www.applianceaid.com where they have very good step by step trouble shooting and repair information on both washers and dryers as well as other appliances. If you have a direct drive top load washer and need help taking it apart this video is an early christmas present. I was so impressed with it that when I saw all these people needing help, I wanted to tell them about it. If you look at the back of your washer and the panel is solid (no small inspection plate to remove which would indicate you have a v-belt drive) chances are you have a direct drive and this video is just what you need. You can see it at www.acmehowto.com You will probably still need help in determining what the trouble is and how to fix it. After viewing the video or if you have a v-belt drive rather than a direct drive, I suggest you go to www.applianceaid.com where they have very good
trouble shooting and repair nformation on most
washers and dryers. I think you'll find what you need
there. Don't worry about the timer, they hardly ever
go bad. Good luck with it. If I have helped you, please rate my advice on fixya.

KitchenAid Dryer Timer stopped working - won't stop drying

Timers cannot be repaired. The mechanism is a spring - once it weakens, or fails - a new timer is required.

It is $83.72 USD.

Here is a Buy-it-Now eBay auction for $34.99USD & Free shipping!!

Your part number for the timer is 3976570a

A used part would have to come from an appliance store that salvaged from an abandoned washer.... and it may fail shortly anyway.
The new timer will have a warranty, and give you 10 more years of service.
Well worth it.
