I turn the TV on, it comes up okay but very dark. About 2 seconds later the screen goes black but the power light remains green. I turn it off and it blinks red 5 times. A week ago I could then turn it back on and it was okay. Now it just repeats the problem sometimes without ever lighting up the screen.
I just replaced the lamp about 2 months ago with an OEM bulb.
Will an official Sony lamp fix the problem?
No, had the same problem. Its the lamp ballast also called the lamp power block. It supplies power to the lamp, any how some repair shop wanted $450 to fix it, so i ordered the part from sony, part #146879816 ($116.25), trust me this is the part I double checked with many different places. Any how fixed it my self took about 15 minutes, just take the back cover off and the part is right there just kind of follow the screws and the 3 wires, super easy job, I suggest you replace the bulb at the same time, dont by a cheap bulb just get it from sony

Yes - exact same problem... after replacing the lamp about 6 months ago!
My Sony KF60WE610 turns on and has picture about 8 seconds and then turns off by itself. About 1 min. later it turns on again for 8 secs. and repeats the cycle. When the TV is on I can see 500-1000 Blue Pixels stuck in the middle of the screen. I don't know if the problem is in the Optical Block or else. Any suggestion would be appreciated.
