When switched on camera gives message - memory card is write prot

When switched on Camera is saying 'memory card is write protected. I cannot then take any photographs. I have tried a new memory card and get the same message. I also have tried to format disc, however that option is not available to me (i.e. although I can see it in the menu, the camera will not allow me to select it.

SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. Slide it toward the contacts to enable write, away from the contacts to protect.

    Does that help?

SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card. If the switch is already in the proper position, slide it fully the other way and then back again.

Camera shows error message saying "Memory card is protected (reset switch on memory card). This message does not clear when I reset the switch. Any suggestions?

The switch internal to the camera may be gummed up. But it can be easily "jogged" back open without opening the camera. You might try the toothpick or the tape fix listed in the troubleshooting steps of this blog article.

Message on camera says "memory card locked" What

Take the memory card out of the camera and look at it. SD and SDHC cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card. If the switch is already in the proper position, slide it fully the other way and then back again.

If that doesn't work, try another card.

Camera no longer working

Your memory card must have had the switch moved from locked to unlocked. To fix this, removed the SD card from your camera. Look on the side and you will find a little switch. One end of the switch says locked the other end says locked. Move the switch from locked to unlocked. Replace it in your camera and turn it back on. Try it and let me know if I can help more.

Turning on the camera

Please look at the memory card closely. If there is a write protect switch, it will give you this error. Please ensure that the write protect switch on the memory card is not in the lock, or protected position.

See more information about SD cards here.

Let me know if this helps!
