I have a pacfab minimax 100 heater. It makes loud banging noises when pump shuts off and waterflow stops. The heater's outlet water plumbing fitting is failing as if there is too much pressure. My pool pressure gauge is now running high. Is the high pressure and heater noise connected? Is the heater exchanger getting blocked on the inside? I clean the outside every year since heater got too hot and burned through the fusible shutoff link.
The high pressure and heater noise are not connected.
The loud banging noises coming out of your heater is when theres is no water flow entering heater, it is a mistake to shut pool filter before shutting heater, i recomended shutting heater second.
It is normal for the bang on the heater when water flow dont exist.
shut heater first then filter. the psi on the gauge is high cause filter needs a backwash or clean, the filter. Remember the heater only heats the water that's it. it is seprate from pool filter.
I am not sure if you have solved this issue, or not, but if the PSI on the gauge is high then the problem may not be the heater. When you have the system turned on, and the PSI is reading higher than normal, just the flow of water coming out your return lines. If the flow is normal, like when you clean your filter, then see if you have a way to re-route the water so it bypasses the heater. If the PSI on gauge drops, then the issue is in the heater.
If the flow of water is slower than normal, with the PSI reading high, then you have a blockage somewhere in the system. It could be something simple like removing debris from skimmer and pump backets, to time to backwash, or clean, the filter.
If the flow of water is really hard and fast, with the PSI high as well, then you have too much water going through the system and need to slow it down.
