SOURCE: Kitchen Hood

Hi absimp,

I'm Harvey the Master Plumber.

Your question is: You are having trouble cleaning your downdraft hood...you are able to remove filters and clean but there seems to be grease build on the hood as well....The smell is really bad but you can't get down in the hood to clean. Is there anyway to remove the hood in order to clean it better??

The short answer is; not really. But don't be dicouraged yet, you shouldn't have to . There is a brush on a long handle that looks like the kind of brush you would use to wash a glass. I wrap the brush part with a small cloth that is wet with cleaner and just use from above rinsing the cloth as nessessary. If you have trouble finding a brush long enough just go to a plumbing supply and buy a brush made for cleaning the soot out of a boiler. If they know your problem they weill be happy to help.

I want to change the filter on my broan 42000-k range hood. filter number 97006931, never done it before. help?

Look at this exploded view:

http://www.appliancefactoryparts.com/hvac/broan/423601.html

Part number 11 is a retainer clip.

Here is the instruction manual:

http://www.appliancefactoryparts.com/content/pdfs/137548-2.pdf

Page five, illustration 13, shows that the retainer clip is turned 90 degrees to release the filter, turned back to retain the replacement.

Here's a cut and paste of the manual:

"FILTERS
40000, 42000 & 42000D Hoods Only:
Remove aluminum filter by turning filter retainer to
one side. (FIG. 13) Filter should be washed once a
month in a hot detergent solution. Aluminum filters
are dishwasher safe. When installing filter, make sure
that filter slides under retaining tabs on back of fan
housing. Turn filter retainer so that arrows on retainer
point toward front and back of hood."

Brian range hood model CJD130SS fan light on display flashes with fan off or on.

I believe that's the "change or clean filter" indication. Clean the aluminum filters in the dishwasher, replace the charcoal filters if non-ducted, press the fan light over 3 seconds and it should reset.

Some range hoods do contain a light filter material to prevent grease entering the fan. It can (and should be) cleaned regularly by hand in warm soapy water. Allow to dry and replace.
