My computer is no longer recognizing my Insignia Kix MP3 player when I plug it in. I get a "bong" sound, but no message pops up. It used to automatically open up to Rhapsody for me. When I go into My Music to transfer a MP3 file to my player, it says I have no device connected. It's been working fine up till now. The only thing I can think of is that I just updated to Internet Explorer 8 a day or two ago. Could that have anything to do with it? My MP3 player plays fine, my PC just doesn't detect it being plugged in. Thanks in advance for any help.
Have you tried changing the cable to another one you know works or have you reinstalled your players drivers?
if you haven't done so, try to uninstall the drivers for your device and then reinstall them. With the player plugged into your usb, open up your Device Manager.
for XP, right click your MY Computer on the desktop and select Properties, click the Hardware tab, click on the Device Manager button. Im not a Vista user but on there I believe you open the Properties on My Computer still, then on the left side of the System Information window, click the Device Manager link.
(or hold Windows Key and press the Pause key to open DM)
Once in the DM, locate your player. Usually under the Universal Serial Bus Controllers. It may be named Mass Storage Device or something else. If you cant recognize it in the list, unplug it an plug back in while looking at all the USB deviced currently installed.
If you see no changes at all as you plug/unplug your player then you may have another problem.

PS....I've tried connecting the player to all different ports on my computer...I get the same result from them all.
Thank you for showing me how to access the Device Manager as I would've had NO clue how to do that. There was a big yellow question mark beside my Insignia software icon, so I reinstalled and it's fine now.
