Key Pad Quandry

Here are a couple things I would try:

• Ctrl and the minus "-" key will make some windows smaller.
• If it's a particular resolution, say 600X400 pixels you can make it smaller, in relation to the desktop by increasing the resolution form say, 800x600 to 1080x768. You can then increase the font sizes so everything else is similar to the sizes they were before. But in some windows that open, the text might mot fit the limited window size..

There is no lock for the key pad, all you need is another USB key pad to deactivate the on board keypad.
The cheapest way is a "rolled newspaper", use that to bash that annoying cat!

your laptop should have a blue FN key (Function) that will work in conjunction with other blue keys on teh keyboard. most laptops this is located in the lower left, next to the ctrl key. Look to the right top on your keyboard for a one labeled numlk. hold down teh left FN key and tap the right num lk key and you just turned off the numbers lock.

There is another option that is a little more intense - if interested let me know that laptop type you have.

I had the same issue. Here's what I did. Not sure if it will work for you. But give it a try.
1) turn on the machine and press "F2" to go into set up.
2) Press alt-p seven times to go to the last page.
3)Press the down arrow to highlight HDD password. Set a password as instructed and reboot the machine.
4) You can remove this password later once your machine starts fine.

Even if you didn't get try this too.


1. Make bootable CD which contains Norton Ghost or other disk image software
2. Boot your system using bootable CD with Norton Ghost software, u can use Hiren's CD ISO image. If u don't know about hiren just google it.

2. Once you boot up , open Norton Ghost click LOCAL-> PARTITION->FROM IMAGE

3. Now "look in" for "[DellRestore]FAT drive" and select this drive (this is recovery partition)

4. Now go to "IMG" folder and select FI.GHO file

5. Click Open and there you go... Process started

Try holding down FN key and F( key. This activated and de-activates the touch pad

Here are keyboards to buy for ThinkPad T43.

Look along the top of the keyboard for an "f key" that shows a "touch pad" icon, IF you see it, press the "function key" (along the bottom of the keyboard) PLUS at the same time the "f key" (that you found along the top) and that should "toggle" the touch pad back on....
Also, IF you plug in a USB mouse that will allow you to move the cursor around--but the USB mouse doesn't fix your touch pad problem.

do you have a little thin bar just above the touchpad if so press it it and see if that helps ok

Does the computer not respond to your keyboard in any way?
If warranty is still valid, contact the shop where you bought it, or contact acer..

Did something happen to the laptop? Fallen, water on it?
