Most line voltage transformers have an internal fuse that isn't replaceable... You can measure the line input resistance with a meter to see if that's the problem.
2004 model will probably have trouble getting the magnetron for it or the program board to repair it
Generally the cost to diagnose it and the parts problem would make a replacement unit with a warranty a better proposition
there may or may not be anything wrong with it, but id be surprised if there wasnt. this model is by far the worst magellan has ever put out, IMHO, it is plagued with problems right out of the box.
wont start, restarts, wont charge because of the faulty usb connector, freezes, white screen, problems with the digitizer, the screen become littered with dead pixels and on and on.
anyway, charge your 4250 good for a few hours via the usb cable to your computer, the press and hold the power button for up to ten seconds or until it starts, if that fails, let me know and ill give you something else to try.
Protect mode will kicking whenever a fault is detected.
Causes that can start protect mode are:
Electrostatic harges on internal circuits.
Leave the unit unplugged for power for one hour or so, this will allow discharge.
Bad speaker wiring. Check speaker wiring, try unplugging and plugging back, or start after removing one speaker at the time.
Internal fault. Internal
fault is the natural cause for protect mode. If all the above did not
work, then the problem is a blown component or an internal fault. In
this case the unit must be taken apart , tested and repaired by an
experienced person. If the unit is less than one year old, or if you
want to get service, call Sony at the phone number listed on the
product documentation.
The chances are that you bridged the printed track with a splash of solder when you replaced the regulator. A short circuit like this will cause the fuse to blow. You can get replacement 20mm slow blow 2amp fuses quite easily. But before you fit a new one, pull the board out again and have a very careful look under a magnifying glass at your solder joints. Get a small stiff bristle brush and carefully brush across the joints in case there is a tiny ball of solder across two points. When you reassemble the unit, ensure that the ribbon connectors are central and fully pushed into the sockets. I'm sure you can recover your DMR E55 reasonably easily. Best wishes
