Toshiba 52hm84 DLP buzzing sound no picture. Checked lamp, lamp had popped. After replacing the lamp, buzzing sound continued on start up, picture worked for a couple of hours, then I shut it off. The next day I went to use the T.V. no picture and a buzzing sound is all I get again. The T.V. does try to restart itself 7 or 8 times as stated in the guide if the picture does not come on, with no resolve.

    What is my next step?

FYI - I had the same problem, I removed the entire ballast board and re-soldered every connection - no troubles since, and this was a year and a half ago!

How did you get to the ballast board? Do you have to take the whole thing apart like it says in the service manual? There's not a lot of room to work inside the housing. I have the same tv doing the same thing.

You have bad capacitors in the power supply that took out the regulator, or the ballast circuit is defective. Not really a repair for the novice. Good Luck

Set was on and made a loud pop noise and the picture went off. the red light was flashing and no picture. then it made a strange buzzing type of sound a few times. turned off for a couple mins and then...

It sounds like your screen inverter has just gone >bang< unfortunately.
Most screens inside use 2 main circuit boards, and you are most likely going to have to change one of them.
It's possible also for it to have been just the backlight bulb making the loud pop noise too. The inverter may have given out too much power and blown the bulb (a lot like you hear when a house bulb goes bang).

If you can't actually hear any TV sounds (normal sounds like music, voices etc. when they should be there), then it means the problem is more serious, and would need a specialist repair place to check out the electrical circuit inside.

Hi. I have a 2004 52' Flat screen projection TV. For the past couple months, we have turned on our TV and all we hear is sound, but no picture comes up. We thought the bulb was having problems. We ordered...

The buzzing is the ballast arc gap, normal sound. When the tv starts does the lamp start to come on. Can you see any light from the back? Sounds like bad ballast. Unfortunatly this part is no longer available. the light engine will have to be removed and sent to Toshiba to be rebuilt.

Tv turns on w/pic then pic dissapears light blinks 4 times

I have the same issue, we've had to change our bulb three times in less than two years. now we have 61" expensive paper weight. Our current bulb is less than 6 months old. The TV is only 2 years old and like i said this is our third bulb.

the blue light blinks 4 times. you get sound. then a few minutes the the picture returns... then it goes out, and the cycle goes on.

A solution to this would be greatly appreciated.

Problem with Toshiba DLP Projection TV Model #52HM84

It is possible the lamps may be defective or that they may be the wrong replacement for this model, as it may have a different wattage setup with the ballast. If you want to try to order the TB25 lamp from a different vendor, you can order the original Toshiba replacement lamp for this model (52HM84) from a major Toshiba parts distributor at the link below:

No picture, hear sound, television will shut off after a few seconds.

Lamp life is only a few thousand hours. Hopefully its only the lamp that made to noise. Don't turn on again until lamp is replaced.
