My John deere 4510 fwd has 300 hrs. It started making a whining noise at times when in hydro gear and moving beyond slow speed. When I stop then start moving again the whining noise stops but usually starts again from 10 seconds to 5 minutes. I stop moving again and the loud noise stops again. Been doing this the past several operating hours. Thanks!
Accord to my books this tractor has a wet clutch transmission (12 speed) , first thing is to ck your fluid level in transmission , this is bit hard to reach on this one but is possible second obtain a small sample of fluid from transmission, have it tested , It can tell you alot , second you mention that hydraulic pump overloads engine with simple tasks like raise 3-point, this could be a stuck pressure relief valve due to yep you guessed it dirty filter (it bypassed itself) ck hyd fluid for proper level and clarity ohh and one more thing this tractor uses hyd pump for power steering (some others have 2nd pump for this) is it possible that noise is coming from that area , cus I have had to replace power steering valve on that model once for a loud Noise reason
remember if your gonna have a all hydro tractor save yourself a lot of grief and periodly wash shaft seals with water sure saves a lot of grief and leaks !!
Any time a hydraulic system whines, it's because it's pumping air bubbles. You have a leak or a worn pump or motor or something in your system allowing air to circulate and the compression and distortion of the air is producing various audible frequencies which sound like whining. Try changing the fluid an filter and bleeding the system. Then pressure test the individual components to find out where the leak is.

You have a bad disk in the starter solenoid pull the starter and go to a shop and buy a new solenoid or flip the disk in the solenoid and sand the two contacts so that it will make contact.

Try jacking the unit up. Start it up and try moving pushing the forward and reverse back and forth and see if it does it then. It sounds like an oil way in the hydrostatic unit has a check valve stuck. Of course make sure that the fluid lever is up. Hope this will help you. donnyb60

Someone said the hydrolic filter is bad and could burn out the pump. Oh, it is also "dead heading". I'm not sure how to adjust...engine bogs if implements go all the way to top position??? Thanks!
