Yes... the best way is to empty it out and just turn it off leaving the door open...
A hair dryer or heat gun will speed things up but do not use a knife or ice pick...you can puncture the coils and kill the freezer...

You can fix it. You would first need to find the leak and repair it. Then your would need to evacuate the air out of the sealed system to prevent ice blockage. Then you would need to slowly add gas to the system till it reaches a maximum of 5PSI no more. Then you oughta be good.

Your problem does not make any sense, please provide more information.

Check to see if there is cold air coming from the freezer to the refridgerator side through the vent holes The compressor maybe getting weak or the freon charge maybe low. Does the unit run a long time before it shuts off? 50 degrees is not cold enough for a freezer. You should be around 32 or less.

Please don't rate me down for this answer, but I'll be honest with you. No, you can not fix it yourself. The entire evaporator would have to be replaced by a service tech who has a refrigerant certification and the proper tools to do it. It would be prohibitively expensive. It's time to buy a replacement.

for a freezer would suggest a thermostat problem easily replaceable if you follow the removal of the old thermo.use temperature gauge to set to the required degree after instaling new thermo

not very easily. Most freezers have the evaporator and condenser inside the wall of the cabinet and you cannot access them. If the puncture is in the condenser you can put in an exterior condenser however the parts break down for your model does not offer this option (:

you're all done buddy. sorry to say i have never seen in 21 years of doing ac and ref work anyone that could weld aluminum saturated with oil . an airtight hermetic seal is mandatory, and with a hole punched its new unit time. sorry

either stat is bad or charge is low. bypassing stat will achieve desires temp. if not then charge is low. if charge is low then buy new. if compressor valves are bad then buy new. to expensive to fix these days. new is cheaper. good luck. stat is power lead in , power lead out. kill power then tie em together to get constant on. be sure yor thermometor is good. i just spent 20000 dollars fixing ref at a hospital, only to find there thermometors were bad! good luck.
