SOURCE: Bogen Manfrotto 3047 head

Dear spiderinkart,
To get the camera to secure properly to the release plate make sure that the bolt is screwed entirely into the camera bottom and then there should be a larger knob that rotates around the bolt that tightens down to the camera body. What I do to get a really tight fit is point the arrow on the bottom of the release plate labeled lens (that arrow when properly mounted should be pointed towards the front of the lens) to a 45 degree angle to the left of the lens, then I snug down the knob, and then I grab the release plate and turn it until the lens arrow is aligned with the front of the lens. As far as quick releaseing the camera from the legs when secured on the release plate you should be able to pull the lever away from the head and it should simply release the camera with the plate attached.

Sincerely,
Agent Allan

I need a replacement for the part that holds the camera on the tripod. Its the square piece with a screw. the tripod number is V-2400GX

It's called a Quick Release Plate and they come in different sizes and shapes. V-2400GX is an older model made by Vivitar right? A Vivitar QB-4w Quick Release is the closest replacement available I do believe. QR-3 and QR-2 are rare as far as I know, you might find one in a resale shop someplace. I hope this helps!

I have a Vivitar 980 tripod with quick release. Can't find the part that screws into the camera to place in the quick release location.

Try www.TripodQuickRelease.com for that part. There is listed the widest selection of quick releases and support more brands than any other web site I've seen. Because your tripod is not supported by the manufacturer; parts lists and pars are not available, you should measure the opening and see what other brand quick releases will work paying attention to the shape and locking mechanism. Otherwise just get another tripod.
