Hoover brush and wash instruction manual

To clean the brushes on a Hoover SteamVac without breaking anything, follow these steps:

1. Turn off the SteamVac and unplug it from the electrical outlet.
2. Locate the brushes: they are usually located under the unit near the front or in the back.
3. Remove any debris or foreign objects from around the brushes.
4. Use a small brush or toothbrush to gently clean the brushes of any dirt or debris. Be careful not to bend or break the brushes.

Probably belt burning due to a roller jam.

Go to your owner's manual, page 12. Remove the belt cover pieces and inspect the function of the belts and brushes, turning them by hand to confirm mechanical connection to the motor. Find the inoperative part and replace it, then simply reassemble the unit and start cleaning your carpet. ;)

Hi! The brush-roll feature needs to be engaged for the belt to tighten, so when checking the belt it will appear to be loose. Be sure you have replaced both belts on the vacuum with genuine Hoover parts. This unit takes belt 38528034 and 38528035. Also, make sure the vacuum is on carpet mode. Follow the link to view the instruction manual which provides instructions and illustrations on changing the belt to be sure it is assembled properly.

I have the SteamVac Dual and there's a screen on the underside of the unit. It's beneath the brushes and it's red. You have to pull and wiggle it to get it out. With the machine unplugged, lay the unit with the handle on the floor. In the owner's manual ( http://www.hoover.com/pdfs/manuals/F7222900.pdf ) this is shown on page 10 figure 3-2. Clean that screen.
If they still won't spin, then take the brushes out. Again, with the unit on the floor, you simply grab the unit firmly and pull towards you. It's much easier to remove than the screen. I took the brush unit outside and blasted it with the house. You'll have to pull out whatever fur balls are clogging it but eventually you'll see that the brushes spin freely with the water squirting on them. Plug the brush unit back in and - in my case - they started spinning.

Most likely the flat belt has stretched enough so as to not turn the pulley that in turn turns the brush roll using a V belt. Also there is a small idler wheel, if hook up, then it won't engage the V belt.
