My TV turns off on on for no apparent reason. While I'm watch it it shuts off and then turns back on again by itself. It's about 6 years old. If I turn it off for about a half an hour the problem gets better.

For bobby11 and luis, it is the power supply. Part Number EAY34797001 in the 42" and EAY34796801 in the 32". This is a known problem, and somebody should start a Class Action against LG over this one. Part is available online and easy to swap out for anyone with the most basic knowledge.

The lamp is most likely over heating. Check the fan in the lamp assembly compartment. Its located in the rear of the tv... try removing the lamp compartment and replacing the fan.
A quick fix is to put a small 7-10 inch box fan with its back flush to the lamp
compartment's vent - this will draw the heat out.

I had the same problem. I replaced the power supply board and everything is good as new. Part numbers I ordered were 6871TPT303B (PSU board) and 6631T20037D (cable assembly). Total cost was about $145 and it took less than 20 minutes to fix. I believe Bestbuy Partsearch has the board and the cable, but I ordered mine through www.encompassparts.com/lgconsumer.
