When using firefox the content is bigger than the monitor screen. how do i adjust the content horizontally to fit the screen?

Did you try simply holding the Ctrl key and pressing the minus (-) sign? That will zoom the content to a smaller size.

When I maximize my document, it is bigger than the screen

Have you tried adjusting the screen properties via Windows? maybe changing the resolution will fix it, and you can adjust the physical screen size too.

The monitor is giving a zoomed in view . its not giving the full view of the desktop screen rather a section of it is zoomed in . there are no settings to zoom out .??

ur setting may be set to low resolution...
try doing this
go to Desktop/right click/properties/Settings/Screen Resolution/
What do u c...what's the resolution there...800x600...
if the slider(pointer) is active use it to increase it to say 1024x768, 1152x864, 1280x1024 etc.
use the correct resolution....as too much of resolution will make ur monitor un-viewable...
also try if ur monitor has some press button on them to make changes to the correct setting/zooming of the screen image...
