Getting stubborn oil stains off your brick driveway sure can be difficult, but it's certainly doable. Here's a short rundown of what I usually do to remove oil stains from my driveway.

  • Cover the stain with kitty litter or sawdust and let it sit overnight. Sweep clean the following day.
  • Put some grease-cutting dish soap or laundry detergent over the oil stain and scrub the area with a brush dipped in hot water.
  • Rinse the stained area with hot water. Repeat the process if necessary.
If all else fails, or if you just don't have the time to deal with the ugly oil stain yourself, you can always call in the pros to clean it up for you. Here in the UK, professional cleaning services are a dime a dozen. I use a company that offers cleaning in Ashford and the surrounding neighborhoods whenever there's a sizable oil stain in my garage that I just can't vanquish on my own. If you're still unable to get rid of the oil stain on your brick driveway, look for local cleaning service providers in your area. Good luck!

What are some of the Driveway Paving Options?

You have plenty of options to choose from when it comes to driveway materials, with the three most popular being: concrete, asphalt, and gravel.
Concrete is one of the most commonly used materials because it's long-lasting and provides value for money since it doesn't cost as much as brick or cobblestone. Concrete is also strong, durable, and is efficient in reflecting heat.
Asphalt is relatively more affordable than concrete, which is a great choice if you want that smooth surface and effective heat absorption. In terms of appearance, asphalt driveways appeal to homeowners who wish to have that uniform, sleek, black look for their driveways.
Gravel is another cost-efficient option that doesn't require much maintenance. It also has efficient draining capacities, and potholes are easily fixed. If you're thinking of using gravel, you might also want to look into grids to reinforce your driveway and ensure surface stability. You can find path grids for your gravel driveway here.

Have a 2006 pontiac g6 leaking oil above starter where is it coming from?

I always buy a service manual from advance or some parts supplier for every vehicle I own, that way the manual tells me how the parts are mounted to the motor and their location to the rest of the motor.
I am not sure where the starter is located on a Pontiac G6 but look above it if you have to use a flashlight, if your oil filter is near it, make sure it is tight and not loose.
Sometimes valve pan gaskets leak and run down the side of motor making us believe oil is coming from another place, just start looking and you will find it.

If my car should be on or off jacks when draining the oil

If your at home changing the oil, how would you
get under it to work on it,change the oil ,etc, without
raising it up & supporting it on quality jack stands?

You would be better to put it on the ground level when
you have added the new oil & are going to start it, verse
leaving it on stands at an angle

Have to add oil to the new filter

How do I change the oil filter in my 1999 Silverado 1500?

Raise the truck up and support it with stands, then go under the truck and look at the rear of the engine, the filter is just before the transmission bell housing on the drivers side, carefully remove it use an oil filter wrench if it is to tight, have a drain pan under the truck so thai oil won't go all over your pretty clean driveway. Once the old filter is removed take a little motor oil and lubricate the new filter O ring seal with oil and fill the filter about half full of oil, then thread it onto the adapter on the engine, turn it until it just contacts the metal sealing surface of the oil filter adapter on the engine, then tighten it 2/3 more turn. You are done

Need to remove oil filter housing - oil leaking out. How do you remove it? Bolt location, etc. The car just dumped almost all it's oil in the driveway while it was idling. The leak appears to be around the...

This is not an easy repair in your driveway, but can be done. 1st thing, have you checked to see if the oil filter is the issue or is it the drain plug? If its the oil filter housing gasket, you will need to remove the filter. The housing is held in place by the threaded bolt assy that the filter screws onto. You will need to remove that bolt, remove the coolant hoses. Clean the engine block surfaces, for the new gasket to mate to, clean the cooling housing surfaces, install the bolt through the housing, and install the gasket onto it. Then install the bolt/housing into the block and tighten the bolt. Install the coolant hoses, oil filter. Fill the cooling system with the coolant that you removed. Fill the engine with oil, start and check for leaks.

How to make a drivingway for my garage of my new house.

Hey Paul,

I'll give you the rundown. First, for a driveway, I'd have to advise using a pretty thick slab of concrete beneath the brick. The concrete part of it should be done professionally. But I live in an area with lots of rain (hence, Mud), might not be a problem where you are. Anyway, here you go:
  1. Clear the area so its smooth. Grade it if necessary.
  2. After clearing the area, set the perimeters with string or with 1x4 boards. This keeps you from going wide as you lay the bricks
  3. Get a load of sand and spread it evenly over the area. This can be done easier with two people and a long 2x4. The depth should be at least an inch. This makes leveling the bricks MUCH easier. Keep some aside for filling in the spaces between the bricks. Keep it dry too.
  4. Start at one end and start placing the bricks. As you advance, you'll be on the bricks, not the sand.
  5. Have a straight edged board handy to level them. Use a rubber mallet to tap them down. Consider the spacing between them. Use a scrap of 3/8 wood or something like that to keep the spacing consistent.
  6. As you place more bricks, get up occasionally and eyeball your work.
  7. After they are laid, you'll need to hit a home improvement place. You are looking for a glue (powdered) that is mixed with your left over sand to set the bricks. Ask someone there, they will know.
  8. You mix it in with the sand and dump it in the middle of the bricks. Then just sweep it over the entire area until the spaces are filled. Then sweep off the excess.
  9. Once filled, lightly spray water over the whole drive. This activates the compound. Once dry, you have a driveway.
If you do concrete it first, you'll only need enough sand for the space fill.

Hope it turns out great. I love brick drives.

Mike
