For several weeks now I’ve had an activex problem I’m attempting to resolve. The actual error reads like this: Flash Player Active X setup-Failed to install-For troubleshooting tips please see: http//www.adobe.com/go/tn_19166—For much of this time I’ve tried this nonexistent address without success! As activex problems and questions on Internet Explorer lead me to registry repair software I went to a comparison site where Max Registry Cleaner came highly recommended! After my purchase the error message was still there? I've contacted Max Secure Software without any fix can you help?

It seems that most of the time its a permissions issue with the registry. I have tried all the fixes that i could find in fourms, adobe's knowldgebase and nothing. This is the only fix i found to work for windows XP PRO, might work with home but not sure if it has secedit or not.

As administrator do the following
1. Open a command prompt
Start -> Run
type CMD and hit "OK"

2. Run secedit (this will reset all core file permssions and registry permissions.)

secedit /configure /cfg %windir%\repair\secsetup.inf /db secsetup.sdb /verbose
3. Download and run the adobe flash uninstall. This will make sure nothing is left from failed installs
http://download.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/current/uninstall_flash_player.e xe

uninstall_flash_player /clean

4. Install flash http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/

5. Enjoy!

For Vista users having active-x problems with adobe flash player try this and see if it will let you install flash player...in windows explorer opern the folder holding internet explorer...usually "c:program files\internet explorer"...then right-click on the file "iexplore.exe" and select "Run as Administrator". You should be able to go to the Adobe website and install the flash player.

After dealing with this issue for about 2 years, I was finally able to fix it using the CMD........

I have xp pro and couldn't load any flashplayer version. I would get the 19166 error.. For two years I was able to work around by restoring my computer to a point where adobe flash 8 was working. I would then make version 8 so it would search for updates. I would also make IE so that it would download any flash updates..

I then found this site and tried the CMD prompt thing. I ran that, then I did the adobe uninstal thing then I did the adobe instal thing
and i final got adobe flash 10 to work!!!

One issue I had was typing in the CMD line, I wasn't sure if there was a space or not. I put it into a word processing window so I could figure out when or if a spaces were needed in that line. Took a few tries, but I finally got the CMD to run.

I have been dealing with this same issue after installing a new HP printer.... something happeded when printer was installed that uninstalled my flash player and it wouldn't reinstall for anything. I tried everything I could find on microsoft, adobe, and hp sites.....kept getting failed install error 19166.... it drove me crazy because there was no logical explaination for it.. I could install ALL other Adobe applications... just not flash player. The way I fixed it was to run the batch setup by "polaris", who posted the answer on this site last April 2008!!! It worked!!! Way to go "polaris".... awesome! Thank you for the solution.

OK, to help clarify my fix so you know exactly where the spaces are, type this line, and where you see an exclamation mark ( ! ), replace it with a space. Again, this should all be on one line from a Command Prompt window.

secedit!/configure!/cfg!%windir%\repair\secsetup.inf!/db!secsetup.sdb!/verbose

This process takes a few minutes to run, so please be patient, and wait for it to complete before using your PC. I would recommend that no other programs are running while you do this. The Command Prompt window should state when the process is finished. Because I am a technician working in an organization with almost 1000 users, and am seeing this problem on several PCs, I created a batch file so I don't have to keep typing it.

Again, once it finishes, open up Internet Explorer, then go to Adobe's site and try to install Flash.

Good Luck folks!

I had this problem - INFURIATING! But what I did was dowload Firfox for my internet browser (and you still get to keep your regular browser - you'll just have two) and Firefax allowed me to install Flash Player 9 when I used Firefox (which will import all of your information from your other internet browser)...so simple, yet it took me about 5 hours to finally realize what I needed to do.
Good luck!

Hello,

I struggled with this issue for some time, then finally came across this solution, relating to the system's security settings and reverting them back to default. You may want to back up your system first however, as this may affect other programs that may rely on some changed security settings. I have run this fix on 4 PC's now, and all worked like a charm. To apply the fix, open a Command Prompt by clicking on "Start", followed by "Run", and type CMD in the box, then click OK. When the Command Prompt window opens up, type this line exactly as entered, being careful that you use spaces where needed (This should all be on one line):

secedit /configure /cfg %windir%\repair\secsetup.inf /db secsetup.sdb /verbose

Hope this helps!

Adobe activex flash player does not work.it did download, but Ican't get it to work.I have vista & explorer 9,I tried everything on the adobe site.

Try uninstalling the flash player first then visit the website:

https://ninite.com/

Scroll down to the section called "Runtimes" and click on "Flash (IE)"

Then Scroll all the way down to the bottom and click on "Get installer"

Download the .exe file and save it on your desktop

Run the installer, remember to close your browser first.

After it installs close the ninite program and open IE (internet explorer) again and visit a website that requires flash (like youtube)

My new packard Bell Onetwo M D6321 64 bit system will not function with Adobe Flash Player 10 Active X. Im using internet explorer (64 bit) as my browser. Adobe website keeps leading round and round...

The component is named 'ActiveX'.
The version of the Adobe Flash Player was 9-point-something, but now
the current version of the Adobe Flash Player is 10-point-something.

So, use Add/Remove Programs to _remove_ Adobe Flash Player.
Restart your computer.
Access: http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
and allow the ActiveX control downloaded from Adobe to be installed.

Can't dowm load flash player

If you have problems installing Adobe Flash Player2.gif, follow the troubleshooting steps below. If one step does not correct the problem, move on to the next step. After each step, you may want to restart your machine to ensure that your changes take effect before moving on to the next step.

Uninstall all previous versions
Before you install Flash Player for any Windows browser, uninstall all previous versions. For instructions on removing the player, please see "How to uninstall the Adobe Flash2.gif Player plug-in and ActiveX control"
at this link...
http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html

Note:All applications must be closed before you run the Flash Player uninstaller. Quit all running applications, including all Internet Explorer or other browser windows, and all Instant Messenger clients. Check the Windows system tray carefully to make certain no applications which might possibly use Flash Player are still in memory.

After you have removed previous versions, you are ready to download and/or install Flash Player.
2. Download Adobe Flash Player Flash Player is available for download from the Adobe Flash Player Download Center.
3. Troubleshoot Adobe Flash Player for Internet Explorer Before installing Flash Player, please check the following browser settings:
Internet Explorer ActiveX settings Browser security settings should be chosen by you or by your system administrator. For single users who do not have an administrator, the Medium: Default Level allows you to view Flash content. For any Custom Level, ensure that both the "Download Signed ActiveX controls" and "Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins" options are set to "Prompt".

To change your security level:
  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. Choose Tools > Internet Options.
  3. Select the Security tab.
  4. Select Custom Level.
  5. Find the section "ActiveX controls and plug-ins".
  6. Set ' Download Signed ActiveX Controls' to Prompt.
  7. Set 'Run ActiveX Controls And Plug-ins' to Prompt.
If you are having trouble installing, make sure that your Internet Explorer security level is not set to High or to a custom level that does not allow viewing of ActiveX controls.
Windows Vista installation failure On some Windows Vista systems Flash Player may be installed, but will not display Flash content. In some cases updating to the latest Flash Player using the included utility can correct the User Account Control settings that cause this problem.
To run the utility, find your installed Flash folder:
  • Right-click C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash\FlashUtil9d.exe
The letter changes with each Flash version, so may be "FlashUtilb.exe" or "FlashUtile.exe"
  • Select "Run as Administrator"
  • Follow the steps to complete the Flash Player installation
  • Restart your computer
Computer user permissions User permissions determine whether or not you are allowed to install ActiveX controls or plug-ins. If you don't have Administrator access to Windows NT, 2000, XP, or Vista you may not be able to install Flash Player successfully. Administrative privileges are required for the Windows system registry and for the C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash folder

Unable to install EasyLink Internet Launchpad to my computer

I posted this on Amazon earlier, where people seemed to be trying to solve similar problems:

I followed all the tips here and on other sites to no avail. This AM, I finally found the problem: I had to update the flash/activeX plugins for Internet Explorer and then it worked.

I'm a Firefox user, and things were working fine until one day, mysteriously, I started to get this "Please install Flash Player 9 and ActiveX" message when we tried to launch the Easy Link software. I had Flash Player 10 on my PC, but I followed peoples' suggestions and tried uninstalling, reinstalling, updating the browser plugins, etc. Nothing worked.

Then, thinking that ActiveX is something that helps a browser run content on a web page, I wondered if the missing ActiveX component that Easy Link was complaining about wasn't browser-specific. So I closed Firefox and Started Internet Explorer, updated the Flash Player from Adobe's website through that browser and Easy Link started working right away.

I suspect that at some point Vista did a software update (as it sometimes does) that included a new version of Internet Explorer. That version probably wasn't updated to the latest Flash plugin and started causing the problem with the Easy Link software. I didn't notice it of course because I don't use Internet Explorer. If anyone is still having the problem, I recommend opening Explorer, going to www.adobe.com and clicking the button that says "Get Adobe Flash Player". Worked for me (finally).

Can't get Adobe Flash Player 9 ActiveX.exe to download.

Flash player 9 is actually not the latest version. If you want to install the latest version which is version 10, follow the steps below:

a. Download the most recent Flash Player uninstaller to your desktop from the TechNote below. Please read the instructions in the TechNote before running the uninstaller.
How to uninstall the Adobe Flash Player plug-in and ActiveX control
http://www.adobe.com/go/tn_14157
b. Quit ALL running applications, including all Internet Explorer windows, other browser windows, AOL Instant Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, MSN Messenger or other messengers. Check the Windows system tray carefully to make certain no applications which might possibly use Flash Player is still in memory.
c. Open the following folder: C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash
d. Run Flash Player uninstaller.
e. Check if there are files left in the folder: C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash. If there are any files left inside the folder, delete the files.
f. Download and install the latest Flash player at:
