it is probilly because the ds is to old or something in the ds is broken.im pretty sure that is why.

DS lite Vr1 VR2 are same product, they are most easy broke if you try to adjust for LCD screen,hard to find where to sell, just fine the following site have

Why don't you go to the nintendo website they can help you, you can explain your problem, ship of the DS and get it back fixed.

Why don't you buy a R4 or Acekard, something that can go into the Slot-1 of the DS?

There is a ribbon that connects the top screen of the ds to the motherboard. It is possible that this ribbon became damaged when the hinge broke. A possible fix would be to replace the upper screen. Hope this helps.

Same thing happened to my DS, DS Lite, and my brother's DS Lite. I just replaced mine using the warantee that I bought from Best Buy.

The only way you can repair this properly is to replace the casing with a new one... the hinge is a common problem and over 90% of my customers on the DS and DS Lite need a new case due to broken hinges. Once the plastic bit has broken then it will only get worse. The small bit that you say fell out was the actual hinge itself (a small black part with a silver end that twists and locks your console into place when open). Hope that helps!
