The ticking noise could be either a piece of the belt hitting as it spins around, it could be something stuck in the drum that is hitting it as it turns too, or it could be the electric motor making the noise. Either way it sounds like you may need to tear it apart to see what's going on.
The ticking noise could be coming from a CV joint. Does the ticking noise go away in reverse? A loose brake pad (Anti rattle clip missing or broken) will move back and forth in it's mounting, a warped rotor will enhance this effect, the ticking noise will come when the pads moves upward into it's mounting causing a metal on metal tick. Does the ticking noise get louder when you are turning the vehicle? If it does this would indicate a worn CV joint.
A "ticking" noise can be caused by several things. First thing to check is the oil level. When an engine is low on oil, there's a lack of lubrication and you will hear the lifters "ticking". Some cars make a "ticking" noise with the AC on. The ticking is the compressor kicking on and off.
It could be a relay clicking under the dash due to a bad ground circuit somewhere in the vehicle. It would be best to have a professional put an ear to it.
Check your oil level. It sounds like automatic lifter or tappets are draining and have to be pumped back up. 2007 is fairly new but if you don't change your oil often this will happen.
588.00 sounds ok for the brake work if they replaced the front rotors, rebuilt the front calipers and resurfaced the rear rotors.
