I have a Palm Tungsten E2. I just got a new computer and downloaded the hotsync software from Palm in hopes to back up my Tungsten E2 by syncing it to the new computer. It is now asking me for a password...
Try using 0000 - that is four zeros - or 1234.
Those are the usual default passwords given by that manufacturer. When all else fails, contact the manufacturer! If you haven't already tried simply pressing the Enter Key with no password in the dialog box first.

I'm trying to sync my E2 with the Desktop. It all works ok until it reaches the stage of the Palm showing"synchronising Tasks" white the Hot sync window on the PC shows "installing handheld applications" ....
If you are running 3rd party apps, your E2 is starting to reject them. Either hard reset your E2 and reload everything or lose it and get a Siemens SX66. I had an E2 and a Z22. Wouldn't have either now. My wife has an E. Too bad

I think I downloaded a bad program to my Tungsten E2. Deleted it on handheld but now get this message when try to hot synch: Sysem mgr. C,Line:4038 Error launching application.
its a virus send it to the manufacturer before they steel some personal information.

As far as I know there is no quick and easy way to delete all of your contacts on your palm, you will have to delete them one by one if you want to do it on your palm, alteratively you could use the palm desktop to delete all of them and then do a custom hotsync and have the computers contacts override the palm.

Take a look at your address and birthday sections and see if you can find duplicates bith in your PDA and you desktop.

Can Palm TX, E2 and z22 all use the same program
You might just have to upgrade the desktop software to work with the TX.  You can keep your names and addresses but you have to check with each program to see if there compatible or not since the TX uses Palm OS 5.  Most of the software available today is written for that operating system.
I don't believe Palm is even supporting the E2 anymore.

More applications than I should have
On your main screen touch the menu icon (bottom right in your graffiti box). This will open your drop down menu. Touch "delete" and a list of programs, etc will appear. Select one at a time and then press delete.
