Orange glow is defrost heater and that is normal. Crackling sound is heater heating up area around it, normal. Water and ice build up in the bottom is due to a clogged defrost drain.
Hello and Welcome to FixYa! Actually the leaking water is from the evaporator coil unit....(it is located at the back wall or underneath the freezer compartment). Under normal conditions,Self-defrost refrigerators usually dispose the water generated during the defrost cycle through a tube or channel that directs the water a pan (Known as Drip pan), commonly below the refrigerator unit.... The channel or tube is clogged and the water is leaking to the refrigerator unit, so you need to clear that blockage/contamination....Once the blockage is removed, the generated water will move through that channel/tube directly to the drip pan and there will no water on the floor in the refrigerator compartment. This is all you need to do.... Best of Luck, Your token of appreciation in form of rating would be highly obliged, Concerned.
Normally what causes the refrigerator not to be cold enough is that the fan that pulls the air from the freezer is not working. Check to make sure it is working, if not then you will have to replace it.
No the freezer and refrigerator settings DO NOT have to be the same
Sounds just like a defrost condensate drain blockage. Every time the refrigerator defrost if the water does not go to the drip pan below the refrigerator all moisture remains inside freezer and refrigerator. That also could be what some models have is called an auto damper between freezer and fresh food compartments. If moisture freezes there because the defrost condensate drain is blocked it will keep the damper open and fresh food section will not be able to regulate a constant safe temperature of 38 degrees F. Send me your model number and look into back and bottom of freezer. If water seems to be flowing from that area you will need to unplug, remove contents and rear panel of the freezer to get to the defrost pan. Melt the ice and lets try to force a little warm water through the opening with a little Clorox to kill any slime that may be blocking the opening. On some models there is a heater below pan to prevent this. I will just need your model to confirm' I'm really sorry you are having to pay someone that should know things like this, Thanks, Sea Breeze
Removed inside rear and floor panels of freezer (ice machine also) as ably advised by your tech. Found ice damming he suspected underneath floor panel. Thawed overnight with pot of hot water in freezer. could see that small rear drain tube was iced shut; why all water going into fridge below.
Avoided floor mess from thawing water flow to evaporation pan on floor by tilting unit forward on blocks and laying several old towels inside freezer door to catch water that would run out. Also placed some in front at base of unit on kitchen floor. Continuing to thaw pipe to unclog, it is iced some way down, again as tech said it might. Will reassemble and be careful with freezer setting, in case it may have been too cold. Also, some food crumbs had found their way behind panel near this drain tube and may have fallen in to block it. Will clean out any remaining.
