Orange light on and it wont turn on

I found this online. Many people have said this worked for them but you need to make sure you follow the instructions carefully.

Step By Step:
(Disconnect all cables, Inc the power)
1. Open the case of your Dell Pc
2. On the power supply box (top right) find the GREEN wire
(The green wire will almost always be the power switch on all Pc's)
3. Cut it at around the middle
4. Strip Both Ends
5.Find a long enough piece of wire that will reach to the front of the pc
6. Solder the GREEN wires back together but putting your seperate peice of wire inbetween them
7. Tidy them up with zip ties and shrink tubing (Electrical Tape if not)
8. Plug the power cable into the pc
9. Hold the wire onto the chassis of the pc
10. If the fans start at full speed, press the power button and let the wire off
11. your pc should be running as normal.

PDP-4340HD keeps turning off.

Continuous blinks of standby light indicates a fault in the IIC data bus. The main board is likely to be faulty. If you wish to know more Check this link.

9VJL3 front panel

Do not have the Front Panel header pinout.

Do have;

Take an LED (Light), with two wires, and check the pins with it.
There is a Top row of pins, and a Bottom row.

Touch the first two pins in the Top row, left side. Does it light up?
No? Go to the next two pins. No? Go to the next two pins.

Keep going until the Power Supply comes on. (It is a BRIEF touch. The Power On switch is a Momentary Contact Switch )
Now you have the Power On switch pins.

LED light blinks? You have the Harddrive activity LED. (Light)
LED light stays on? You have the Power On LED. (Light)
Computer restarts? The Restart switch pins.

Short something out? NOPE. You can't hurt a thing using this method.

4 of those pins are for an internal speaker. (To hear BIOS Beep Codes with)

That's 12 of those 18 pins. (Probably less. It is two rows of 9 pins, that are stated for the Front Panel header)
4 of those pins probably won't be used.
You won't be using IR. (Infra Remote) (Only uses 2 pins, though)

Most of the time with an 18-pin Front Panel header;

Top Row:
Starting at Left side, going towards Right;
Pins 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, and 18.
May be a pin missing in this row, or two.

Borrom row:
Starting at Left side, going towards Right;
Pins 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15, 17, and 19.
Same thing here. May be 1 or 2 pins missing.

Pins 2 and 4 are usually for the Power On LED. (Light Emitting Diode)
Pins 6 and 8 - Power On switch.
Pins 10, 12, 14, and 16 may be for the Internal speaker.
Pins 18, and 20 are usually not used.

Pin 1 and 3 for the HarDDrive activity LED.
Pins 5 and 7 for the Reset switch.

Pin 9 is usually reserved for the factory, and is a 5 Volt test point.
Pins 11, 13, 15, 17 for speaker; or not used. Same with pin 19.

(So speaker pins may be top row, or bottom row. Dunno )

Another thing. This motherboard is old enough to be using a 3 wire LED, or dual color; for the Power On LED.
LED usually had the colors Green and Yellow.
Yellow for 'Normal' mode, Green for 'Turbo' mode.

(Which is a bunch of cr@p.
Green LED, or Turbo Mode; was actually NORMAL.
Normal mode was the computer operating BELOW the Normal mode)

So pins 2, 4, and 6, may be for a 3 wire Power On LED.

M1991 screen stays black, little light is yellow

The fault is a back-light problem and the fault could be a faulty inverter board or a faulty CCFL lamp.

Green light next to power button stays on - no response from computer, totally frozen for up to 12 hrs, then green light goes off, computer suddenly comes on for 5-10 min then freezes again.

Good day sir, hi, You need a thorough check on your PC.
But first try testing the Motherboard, Processor and Memory module.

As this point you need a friend, that knows how to tinker with your PC

Or you may need to do this.

1. memory testing:
Try replacing a new memory ram module on your PC, get the modules out of the memory slot, and let it be tested on another PC. if good,

2. power supply
Test for the power supply box, remove the 20/24 pin power connector from the mainboard and short the green and any black wire, your fan should blow out air.

3. Test for motherboard.
remove all coonections from the motherboard, except the 20/24 pin power connector, and the 12v 4-pin molex power connector, connect the pc speaker or the thumb speaker on the speaker port, connect a keyboard, clear the CMOS, (or remove the battery temporarily), connect the header panel (power switch, reset, power led) place the processor and memory (the tested good one). power on.

You should hear a beep (good) The keyboard will light up the three leds, then a few seconds, the numlock led.

If you hear 1 long and 2 or 3 short beeps, problem with the display section. Reseat any graphics card. test again.

If you hear continous beeps, reseat the memory, if the beeping persist, replace your motherboard.

If you hear nothing? only fan blowing, replace your motherboard.

I can only give you instructions, you need a someone who knows how to service a PC.

Not the power supply!

Hi

To help troubleshoot a problem, Dell Dimension 5100 has four diagnostic lights labeled "1," "2," "3," "4" on the front panel. When the computer starts normally, the lights flash. After the computer starts, all four lights lites solid green. The power button also lites solid green. If the computer malfunctions, the color and sequence of the diagnostic lights as well as the power button helps identifies the problem.

First, disconnect the power cord and remove all connections (Keyboard, Network, Mouse etc) as well as optional PCI Cards. Connect up the power cord (Monitor as well) and try powering the PC.
Check the diagnostic lights/system lights color and sequence and check the link below for more info (Assuming you have another system that can access internet)
Diagnostic Lights - http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dim5100/en/sm/tshoot1.htm#wp1120147
System Lights - http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dim5100/en/sm/tshoot1.htm#wp1114432

Reply with lights color and sequence as well as any beep codes and I will respond at best effort.
